Corinne Miller and Adam Carroll had only been together for a month when they went on a trip to Atlanta to celebrate her birthday.
Although they were enjoying spending time together, they were on a tight budget.
So to save money on drinks, they decided to pretend to get engaged to get free drinks at a bar.
Adam got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Through laughter, Corinne said yes and the rest of the people in the bar cheered.
Amazingly, their plan worked and they ended up with some shots from strangers.
Corinne, 29, and Adam, 29, from Pratville, Alabama, went onto another bar and said they were celebrating their engagement to get more drinks.
But six months on, on Adam’s birthday, he proposed for real and this time it really was a surprise for his girlfriend.
Photographer Corinne said: ‘We both have the exact same humour- that’s one of the main components of our relationship.
‘People started buying us shots and congratulating us – it was hilarious and definitely a great way to get free drinks.
‘It has definitely been a whirlwind romance. We were best friends for eight years before we were a couple and that trip to Atlanta was actually one of the first trips we had been on together.
‘I’m happy we did it – it definitely saved us some cash so Adam could get me a real engagement ring!’
