Camden Town Brewery creates miniature pubs for hedgehogs to hibernate in this winter

Hedgehogs, as well as being pretty cute, are important for our gardens.

But they are at risk, particularly in urban areas, due to a loss of habitat, dangerous roads and pesticides.

So brewery Camden Hells is trying to help – by creating very cute miniature pubs.

Your idea of hibernation might also be to go down the pub, sit in front of the fire and enjoy a few pints with friends and hedgehogs also just want somewhere safe, cosy and sheltered.

The Hibernation Arms huts can be placed in your garden for your spiky friends to enjoy.

And you get a four-pack of Hells in Hibernation Lager to enjoy.

The huts cost £50 but all proceeds go to the British Hedgehog Preservation Society.

If you don’t want one of the huts, you can pick up a pack of the lager and a donation will be made to BHPS.

Hells in Hibernation Lager is the latest addition to the Seasonal Hells range – a fresh, crisp and unfiltered beer, it is brewed with Chinook and Apollo hops for a piney aroma and citrus bitterness.

You can get single 330ml cans from Marks and Spencer’s and a four-pack of 330ml cans from Sainsbury’s, with an RRP of £2 per can.

Fay Vass, Chief Executive of The British Hedgehog Preservation Society, says: ‘We are very grateful that Camden Town Brewery is showing support for hedgehogs with its fantastic Hells in Hibernation Lager.

‘Hedgehog populations have declined by half in rural areas and by a third in urban ones in the last 20 years so they need all the help they can get. The funds and awareness that this collaboration raises will help us, help hedgehogs.’

Jasper Cuppaidge, Founder of Camden Town Brewery, comments: ‘Hells in Hibernation gives our classic Hells Lager recipe a fresh new taste for winter – It’s unfiltered, and brewed with hops that are high in alpha acids, so they bring out that piney resin and citrus bitterness that you might find when taking a breath of fresh air on a winters walk in the woods.

‘As the changes in our environment are having an increasingly negative impact on the wildlife around us, we’re having to be more aware of how we can all do our bit to help.

‘Our partnership with the British Hedgehog Preservation Society has taught us how we can all do our bit – whether it’s educating us on what to do when we find a hedgehog in need, or creating a safe space, like The Hibernation Arms, in your garden at home.’
