An Australian influencer is being criticised for being ‘fraudulent’ after faking an injury to get upgraded on a flight.
Jamie Zhu – who has more than one million followers on social media – filmed himself putting on a fracture boot before boarding a Cathay Specific flight.
With a friend recording the whole thing, Jamie was seen putting on a brace for a ‘broken ankle’ before getting on the plane.
In a video entitled How To Fly Business Class For FREE he was seen struggling to fit the brace into the window seat in economy class.
After two flight attendants came to assess the situation, Jamie is then escorted to a business class seat.
He then gleefully tells the camera ‘Oh my God, guys, it actually worked’.
Jamie then films himself enjoying the luxury amenities on board the flight which includes his own footrest, a storage department, an adjustable bed.
The Youtuber was also seen putting his feet up before posing with one of the flight attendants.
However social media followers commented in their droves saying it was ‘fraud’ and akin to shoplifting.
The Youtube video – which has more than 100,000 views – also received almost 4,000 dislikes.
At the end of the video, Jamie casually walks off the plane claiming to have had an enjoyable flight.
When a Cathay Pacific employee says: ‘I hope your ankle gets better’, Jamie responds ‘Oh yeah, I forgot about that,’ before laughing and walking off.
Followers were less than pleased.
One person wrote: ‘Loser. I spent weeks in a boot for surgery. Disabilities are not something to prank about!!!’ while another said: ‘So you committed fraud and posted the whole act here? This should be handy in court.’
Another wrote: ‘Shame on you! My daughter is a flight attendant and you are taking advantage of their goodwill to try and help those in need.
‘Be careful what you are doing and how you are doing it. It hurts the people who really need it. And stunt like this will come back to hurt you more ways than you know it.’
One person wrote: ‘You lied and took advantage of people’s good nature. This is really morally reprehensible.’
We’ve reached out to Jamie for comment and will update the article if he responds.
