With Veganuary just around the corner, vegans – and lovers of plant-based food – are being surprised every day with new food launches.

The latest vegan food update comes from none other than Taco Bell.

The company is the latest fast food chain to add a new plant-based meat option, launching its ‘oatrageous’ taco.

Join the dots you’ll probably come to find that this ground beef alternative is made from oats.

So how will it taste? Considering the oat meat is cooked with the same seasonings as the meat version, Taco Bell fans are likely to enjoy it – or not be able to tell the difference.

The menu item consists of the oat-based meat, lettuce, and Taco Bell’s classic crispy shell. Cheese and chipotle sauce are also available if diners prefer a vegetarian option.

The new taco was originally tested in Finland, but has just become a fixed addition to the menu in Spain. The company plans to roll out the new vegan taco throughout Europe in 2020, so hopefully, we’ll see it in the UK soon.

In other plant-based news, Sainsbury’s will release 31 new vegan products from its new brand Plant Pioneers.

The drop will coincide with Veganuary and will include vegan meals including smoky quarter pounders, mushroom hotdogs with mash and mushroom meatball spaghetti. The items will be priced between £2.50 and £3.

Frozen pizza company Chicago Town has also just announced it will be releasing its first vegan pizza with BBQ jackfruit with peppers, onions, dairy-free mozzarella and a tomato-stuffed crust. The new dish will be available in stores Tesco, Asda, and Iceland from early January 2020
