Fragrance is a key part of my beauty routine. In fact, I’d go as far as to say the finishing touch to complete an entire outfit, in my opinion.
I have amassed an extensive collection of perfumes over the years, which are typically citrus notes or centre around woody accords, such as sandalwood, bergamot, musk, lemon and grapefruit.
But out of all the perfumes I own, Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 gets the most compliments from strangers in the street, and it’s my favourite everyday fragrance, though not entirely for that reason.
The Escentric Molecules 01 – otherwise recognised as E01 – doubles up as a genderless scent, as well as a layering scent, which are two beauty trends in one. While I have worn it as a base scent and paired with other fragrances, I also wear it regularly on its own, and that’s when it gets the most recognition.

Molecule 01 is composed solely of Iso E Super, a unique molecule that enhances the wearer's natural scent with a pheromone-like effect, often described as 'pulling power.' This hyper-modern cedarwood note has a velvety feel and stays close to the skin, amplifying your natural aroma.

As it reacts to the skin’s pheromones, it is also said to make for an alluring scent. It’s safe to say this fragrance achieves that as I am frequently asked ‘What scent are you wearing?’, and fellow beauty enthusiasts have said the same.
Perfumer, Geza Schoen, created Molecule 01, and it’s a bit of a science – though that’s unsurprising considering the title of this hero product.
This fragrance centres around the Iso E Super molecule, which is the base note of this fragrance, and it interacts with the skin’s pheromones. Accompanying base notes include incense, plant resin Mastic, and musk, which provides a subtle fragrance layer that is not too heady or overpowering.
Schoen has blended botanicals Orris, which is also known as iris root, and hedione (green jasmine bud) to make the heart scents. While zesty lime, warm pink pepper, and chemical Aldehydes, which offers a clean linen-esque scent as the top notes.
Though there is a variety of scent profiles included in the Molecules 01 fragrance, no one scent overpowers the other. In fact, it blends together to create a gentle, long-lasting, clean yet woody scent.
This scent is versatile, as I wear it for the daytime, as well as evening, I will layer it with the iconic Santal 33 from Le Labo, or Glossier’s You, or let it shine on its own.
It is available in two sizes, 30ml and 100ml, and retails for £55 or £115 respectively. Though it comes with a hefty price tag, I consider it a worthy investment especially for those seeking a unique scent that nobody has. After all, nobody else has your skin pheromones, right?
But don’t just take my word for it, as I am not the only fan of this fragrance. The Molecules 01 scent has amassed plenty of rave reviews across its various stockists, and is quite the head turner according to other customers.
One John Lewis shopper’s review read: ‘Every time I wear this perfume, which is everyday, I get so many compliments and I am always asked what I am wearing. It’s what I have been wearing for over ten years and it’s the most beautiful smell ever.’
Another gushed: ‘One of my all time favourites. People stop me so often and ask what I’m wearing. Just shows its value for money when you get so many compliments!’
A separate shopper shared: ‘The most stunning beautiful smell ever, the compliments I get are just amazing when I wear it. already I’ve friends & family saying that they are going to purchase it. If you haven’t had this definitely purchase it as you will not be disappointed at all.’
Not one bad thing could I say, it’s my absolute favourite smell.
