Ruby Wax has a new way of getting around – but it’s not dampening her spirits.

The actress and comedian, 71, recently headed off on a cycling holiday with her pals, sharing snaps from sunnier climates with her social media followers.

Just one day ago, she wrote: ‘A cycling holiday with your friends is good for your mind and body.’

Alas, it seems the holiday ended on a rather sour note and the star sustained an injury.

Taking to Instagram on Friday (July 11), Ruby uploaded a snap from the airport as she sat in a wheelchair while her friend pushed her.

‘It all ended in tears, but now I’m living life in the fast lane 🏎’, she joked in the caption.

In true Ruby style, she wore a smile on her face in the photos, the second showing her arm in the air as the undoubtedly chaotic duo waited with their luggage.

Ruby didn’t expand on any possible damage but didn’t seem to be wearing any bandages or a cast.

In the comments, fans were keen to wish her a speedy recovery.

‘Hope you recover soon from your Waxccident!❤️’, joked a punny michaelisennock.

‘Aww I hope it’s a strain and nothing that needs much intervention other then some rest and ice. Feel better soooooon, dear Ruby. ❤️’, commented jooleshemmy.

TV personality Ruby is famous for her jokes. They have, after all, shaped her career.

However, she recently opened up about her struggles behind the smiles as she got candid about depression.

She’s battled the mental illness for decades, alongside bipolar disorder.

Ruby successfully managed both with medication for 12 years but suffered an unexpected relapse two years ago while staying at a monastery in Yorkshire.

‘I thought I was possessed by the devil, so it wasn’t the most appropriate place for it to happen,’ Ruby quipped to Hello! Magazine.

‘I said, “I’ve got to get out of here,” and then I admitted myself to a psychiatric clinic.

‘If you have depression, you go dead, but you’re awake. It’s not just being sad. It’s like somebody took your brain and it hurts to move.’

The US star, who has been a regular on British TV since the 1980s, has also been back touring with a new play and a book, both titled I’m Not as Well as I Thought I Was.

They are inspired by her five-week stay at the clinic, which came after she travelled the world in pursuit of the meaning of life.

After being admitted to the mental health hospital in London, Ruby relied on comfort television to get her through the days.

‘In the clinic, I lived under a duvet and watched re-runs of Friends,’ she told Metro.co.uk last year.

‘I didn’t understand the plot because they were too complicated, but I really liked the colour purple. That was the colour of one of their walls.’

As well as professional support, Ruby has the help of her family, including her producer-director husband Ed Bye, son Max, and daughters Maddy and Marina.

On how they help manage her illnesses, Ruby shared: ‘I think they’re really wounded because they don’t want mummy being that ill.

‘But they understand it. They know I’ll get better.’
