Paloma Faith has hit out at the ‘way people criticised the women’ who performed at Glastonbury Festival this year.
The Only Love Can Hurt Like This hitmaker played to thousands of adoring fans at the Pyramid Stage on Sunday for the final day of the Worthy Farm music extravaganza in Somerset.
Paloma was undoubtedly delighted to make the gig happen after fears she could pull out due to illness.
Speaking out after her stellar performance, the British star has demanded people give ‘women a goddamn break’ after comments were made about the female headliners.
For example, on Friday night, headliner Dua Lipa, 28, was hit by allegations of miming, which she denied.
Then, on Sunday night, closer SZA, 34, failed to draw in a huge crowd, with viewers claiming she was the ‘wrong choice’ and not well-known enough in the UK.
Pop star Paloma, 42, wrote in a lengthy rant on her Instagram Story on Monday morning (July 1): ‘The way people criticise the women who performed @glastofest online is absolutely appalling.
‘Personally, I watched women perform my fave shows of Glastonbury @littlesimz @janellemonae @sza and @dualipa were my faves for entertainment power and talent that I managed to catch this year and Janelle’s speech about marginalised communities got me in the heart.
‘I think people need to understand that women are not on stage to be ridiculed and shamed we are there in all our female boss b***h power and we stand by one another.
‘I want you all to know we read your comments and we absorb them and they aren’t good for our spirits. SO GIVE WOMEN A GODDAMN BREAK [sic]’.
It comes after One Kiss hitmaker Dua sternly hit back at miming accusations, simply insisting: ‘I do not mime.’
A source added to The Sun following her killer set packed with hits such as Levitating and Houdini: ‘Dua’s vocals were 100% live.
‘She had worked for years to that moment and would never dream of miming to her fans.’
American singer SZA, meanwhile, admitted she ‘faced’ her ‘fears’ about fronting the Pyramid Stage.
Taking to X after she was hit by sound issues and forced to switch her microphone partway through her Glasto set, SZA penned: ‘The bravery required to be alive in public is remarkable. S/o everybody doing that s**t’.
Dua and SZA were this year’s two female headliners, following criticism of Glasto organisers in the past for not booking enough female performers. Meanwhile, Coldplay closed out Saturday night.
Shania Twain also played the Legends slot on the festival’s final day, but her set was plagued by technical issues, causing viewers to complain that she sounded ‘dreadful’.
As for her own Glasto set, Paloma took the opportunity to dish out some relationship advice – aimed solely at men.
After a singalong of her track Sweatpants, from her latest album, The Glorification Of Sadness, which deals with the end of a relationship, the powerhouse vocalist said she had been experimenting with dating apps.
But she called that form of finding love the ‘Wild West’ as people ‘don’t really know how to connect anymore’.
She added: ‘Try and stay together, but it’s the resentment that’s the problem.
‘So all I’m asking, this is a plea, I’m talking about (heterosexual) men, if you are married… and I just want you to notice that if a woman does the same action every single day, it means it needs doing, so don’t wait to ask to do it, just do it.’
Dressed in a tight pink-and-red dress, the star had struggled with a sore throat, leading to the cancellation of her Friday gig in Southampton’s Guildhall Square, but belted out all her hits at Glastonbury, using her wide-ranging vocal skills.
She also appeared to be warned in her earpiece by the production team that she needed to stop talking and finish the slot.
There’s no doubt about it that Paloma drew in the stars, given that Oscar-winner Cate Blanchett headed to her set earlier in the day, with former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker also watching.
While Glastonbury is now over for another year – and it will take a break in 2026 so the land can recover – Emily Eavis is already making plans for 2025.
Teasing festival-goers, she’s said talks are being had about who might play… so, who do you wish to see headline?
