Netflix fans are discovering a hidden gem drama that has woefully flown under the radar for a year.
Viewers have confessed to ‘staying up all night’ to binge-watch Pact of Silence about a woman seeking to exact revenge on her mother, who abandoned her as a baby.
On Rotten Tomatoes. fans of the Mexican drama, including user AlyshiaS, said they were ‘hooked from the beginning’ of the 18-part series.
Echoing their sentiment, ABlessingToYou raved: ‘Love it!!!!!! I really enjoyed watching this series from the beginning to the end. It had me wanting to stay all night just to watch it, lol… The only thing , I hate is that it had to come to an end.’
ShayneO enthused: ‘From the first 10 minutes I was hooked. It’s a great storyline that I totally loved and enjoyed. I found myself up til after mind night watching another episode. Definitely will miss it once I’m done with all the episodes.’
LinZ also added: ‘I absolutely loved this series!!! It is mysterious with many twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat. I binge watched all 10 episodes in one day. However, several questions are still not answered. I am very hopeful the writers will create a season 2, maybe more, to keep us in our toes.’
Pact of Silence follows social media influencer Brenda (Camila Valero) as he infiltrates the lives of four women and best friends, knowing that one is her long-lost mother.
However, the four women made a pact to never reveal who gave birth to a baby daughter when they were teenagers, making Brenda’s quest for revenge a complicated affair.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Pact of Silence has a 71% audience score – and it has similarly impressed critics.
Graeme Blundell for The Australian said: ‘It is a compellingly over-the-top revenge tale in the style of the telenovela and is made with the same kind of high end cinematic style and convulsive narrative spinning.
In Decider, Joel Keller wrote: ‘Pact Of Silence is a bit outlandish and has the potential to go off in a lot of crazy directions, but we wouldn’t expect anything different from a telenovela.’
Pact of Silence isn’t the only Netflix show to have gone down a storm with critics recently – with Supacell, Savage Beauty and The Mole scoring a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes’ review aggregator.
Savage Beauty centres on a woman who, in her attempt to avenge a tragic past, embeds herself into a powerful family who run a global beauty empire – and who are also hiding secrets of their own.
Meanwhile, Supacell follows a group of people living in south London who suddenly discover they have super powers, and the man who has to unite them to save the woman he loves.
Finally, The Mole, a reboot of a game show which originally aired on US screens from 2001-2008, sees 12 players take on a string of challenges to add money to a prize pot – except one of their number has been assigned as a ‘mole’, their job being to sabotage their efforts as much as possible.
Pact of Silence is available to stream on Netflix.
