David Beckham and Victoria Beckham have taken us right back to the nineties with their perfect Instagram post.
The iconic couple decided to recreate their unforgettable wedding looks 25 years later, in celebration of their anniversary.
On July 4 1999, after wearing more traditional ivory bridal and groom looks for their ceremony, the couple decided to create pop culture history with their evening ensembles.
The pair chose a bold purple colour scheme that wouldn’t look out of place on a Cadbury’s chocolate bar, with David, 49, wearing a shiny suit in the hue with matching shoes, while Victoria, 50, complimented her new husband in a floor-length gown.
The Antoni Berardi design featured red lining and a floral strap that draped over one shoulder. Rather than keep the accessories simple, Victoria decided to go hard or go home, with silver shoes which wrapped up her leg to just below the knee.
While some may have wondered what the thought process was behind the unique wedding looks 25 years ago, you cannot deny they were the moment and very much still are.
It may have been over two decades since they last wore the outfits (to our knowledge) but the good news is they still fit, so we were treated to a photo of their try-on session.
Staying true to the original vision, they also got their thrones out of storage, which they sat on during their big day.
‘Look what we found… 😅💜,’ the couple joked in the caption.
Fans couldn’t get enough of the photo and complimented the couple on the joyous part of their relationship history being brought into 2024.
‘Going to tell my kids these are the Queen and King of England,’ joked Oi.Robbie.
Nathan Peter Grassi added: ‘This is the only monarchy I recognise. Happy anniversary, kids.’
‘Victoria is always beautiful and elegant, while David always has that contagious smile. The real royal couple,’ remarked Lane_Ane_Ane.
Traditionally, couples who celebrate 25 years of marriage exchange silver gifts, but we now unofficially declare it purple, thanks to their picture.
In their Netflix documentary, Beckham, they spoke about why they chose the eye-catching looks.
‘I’m trying to think back to when I decided to wear a purple suit, and I don’t know when that happened. I think I just took Victoria’s lead on it, but what were we thinking?’ David remarked.
However, Victoria declared they were just having fun with fashion. ‘We weren’t worried about what people were going to say,’ she recalled. ‘You just want to express yourself, that’s just who we were.’
Posh and Becks’ special day was attended by just 29 guests including Spice Girls Emma Bunton, Melanie C, and Melanie Brown (not Geri Halliwell who’d already left the band at this point) but that clearly didn’t mean they kept things simple or remotely low-key, with the celebrations taking place at the luxurious Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland.
There was one particularly special guest – their son Brooklyn Beckham, who wore a purple outfit, bib and cowboy hat – he may have a little more trouble squeezing back into that one.
At the time Brooklyn, 25, who is now old enough to be married himself and wed Nicola Peltz-Beckham in 2022, was their only offspring. He’s since been joined by three more siblings – Romeo, 21, Cruz, 19, and Harper, 12.
Happy anniversary Posh and Becks – please keep serving us looks!
