One of the most iconic TV series of the 2000s – which has been dubbed by some as the ‘greatest show ever made’ – is set to launch on Netflix ahead of its 20th anniversary.
To quote one of the most famous phrases uttered in the series… ‘We have to go back!’
If you haven’t figured it out already, we are of course talking about Lost, the epic drama that took the world by storm when it premiered in 2004.
Lost follows a group of passengers on a flight who crash on a deserted island, featuring a star-studded cast including Matthew Fox, Evangeline Lilly, Josh Holloway, Dominic Monaghan and Daniel Dae Kim.
On top of simply having to figure out how to survive in a hostile environment with a group of strangers, the characters have to contend with dark and mysterious forces on the land that threaten their lives.
Lost originally aired for six seasons from September 2004 until May 2010, and has been lauded ever since as one of the best releases in TV history, despite its controversial ending continuing to divide fans to this day.
Now, 14 years after its final episode aired, it’s on its way to Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
Before confirming the news, the streaming giant teased the announcement with a cryptic tweet on X that listed the numbers ‘4 8 15 16 23 42’.
Now, if you’re a diehard Lost fan, you’ll recognise this sequence straight away, as they’re the numbers that won Hurley (Jorge Garcia) $114million (£89m) in the lottery.
These numbers end up being extremely significant to the plot of the show, as they resurface in unexpected ways on several occasions.
When is Lost coming to Netflix?
An hour later in a follow-up tweet, Netflix UK & Ireland confirmed: ‘We have to go back. LOST S1-6, 15 August.’
The announcement has been met with huge excitement from TV viewers excited to finally watch Lost for the first time, as well as those who are preparing to rewatch it all over again.
Some admitted that they’re going to give it another watch despite being left unsatisfied by the ending… while others pointed out that the series is already available to watch on Disney Plus.
‘Get ready UK! One of the greatest shows ever is coming to Netflix! #LOST,’ @vickster51 wrote on X, while @swindlehurstJ commented: ‘I honestly cannot say thank you enough.’
Arthur added: ‘Time for the show to get its flowers, top 5 series of all time.’
Callie shared that while they ‘love and hate this show equally’, they ‘will be re-watching’, as Max remarked: ‘Happy that more people are going to watch the greatest show ever made.’
One X user called @Abzbreathtaking shared that they ‘might finally see the show I’ve heard a lot about for the first time’ when it arrives on Netflix.
Meanwhile, a fan called The Scottish Superman pointed out the date that the streaming giant had chosen to launch Lost – on August 8, aka the 15th of the 8th… two of the numbers in Lost’s famous sequence.
While we won’t reveal what happens in the end of Lost just in case there’s a risk of spoiling it for anyone who’s yet to watch it, it’s widely known that the finale was extremely divisive.
However, for a drama that received scores of awards including 11 Emmys, and is consistently hailed as one of the best series ever to be shown on TV, we’d say it’s definitely worth a watch.
