Warning: This article contains spoilers for the final episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Curb Your Enthusiasm ended last night after 12 seasons across 25 years as fans applauded the finale of the comedy show led by Larry David which closed with a huge twist.

The series, which focuses on the fictional, grouchy version of Larry, 76, finished on a surprise high as he escaped imprisonment in the final moments.

The episode focused on Larry’s trial for violating Georgia election law by giving a bottle of water to Auntie Rae Black (played by Ellia English) while she waited in line to vote.

While on trial, Larry’s various misdeeds were recalled and put in front of a jury, including killing a swan with a golf club, eating a dying dog’s final meal, and hiring a prostitute in order to use a carpool lane – among many, many other offensive actions.

However after being sent down for a year, Larry was suddenly set free from incarceration by… Jerry Seinfeld.

Many viewers were quick to notice the homage to the 1998 divisive finale of Seinfeld, a show which Larry co-created, which saw the four friends sent to prison for a year.

Naturally, fans were thrilled with the tribute, calling the move ‘cocky and fantastic’.

@mike_snoonian said on X: ‘Larry David repeating the Seinfeld finale to a ‘T’ after two decades plus of hearing people b*tch and moan about it is the most baller, cocky, and fantastic move he could have made. What a high note to go out on. RIP #CurbYourEnthusiasm.’

@chuckthomasuk added: ‘That was the best finale ever. Larry recreates the Seinfeld finale, only to surprise us with a last-minute twist from Jerry. Still the funniest show on TV after 25 years. Pretty, pretty good. #CurbYourEnthusiasm.’

Explaining why the beloved series has come to a close, Larry commented that he is simply ‘too old’ to keep up with the demands of the show.

‘I’m too old to really be on camera every single week now,’ he told Sunday Today per USA Today.

‘To act the way I do on this show, how can I continue to act like that? It’s insane. Yeah, I can do it in my 50s and 60s to mid-70s. I’m not going into the 80s acting like that!’

He added that there was ‘no chance’ of the series ever returning, despite the fact that fans are reluctant to believe him.

‘Nobody believes me,’ Larry told the Today show. ‘I don’t understand it. People don’t believe me. This is it!’

Curb Your Enthusiasm is available on Sky Comedy and Now.
