Some of the most beloved stars of the 1980s have barely aged in the past 40 years and still look almost exactly the same as they did four decades ago.

Everybody ages and that’s a fact of life. But not all of us age the same, with some trying to prevent it, some trying to embrace it, and others really not worrying too much about it.

There are those who are also envied by many: the Hollywood stars who have found a way to age like fine wine.

Particularly, some of the stars who appeared fresh faced on our screens in the 1980s when they were just starting their careers, and have managed to look just as fresh today.

It could be genetic, it could be with the help of cosmetic procedures or it perhaps they have been drinking from the (very delicious) fountain of youth.

All we can say, is that there are some famous faces from the 1980s who have retained their looks – if not their shoulder pads – and look just as great as they did in the 1980s as they do today…

Rob Lowe, 60

Rob Lowe first gained fame in 1985 with the release of the film, St Elmo’s Fire and has a younger generation of fans because of his appearance as Chris Traeger in Parks and Recreation. The star is incredibly well-preserved and turned 60 earlier this year.

Speaking about his youthful complexion, Rob credited sleep, the Adkins diet, and 33 years of sobriety.

Speaking on his podcast, Literally! With Rob Lowe, the actor said: ‘I haven’t had a drink in 33 years. That’s a huge thing, even beyond recovery.’

He added: ‘When you think about the calories and the bloat you’re missing. That just adds up. So that’s super-helpful.’

Patrick Stewart, 83

When the actor reprised his iconic role as Jean Luc Picard in Star Trek Picard fans were astonished to see that Sir Patrick Stewart looked almost the same as he did back in the 1980s.

On the Graham Norton Show in 2017 he credited his unchanged looks to thinking ‘clean thoughts’.

He then said: ‘I was born with it, thank you to my mother and father, they gave me great skin and this physique!’’

Kim Wilde, 63

Kim Wilde just announced a huge UK tour and fans were amazed to see that she has aged incredibly well. Speaking to The Mirror a couple of years ago, the Kids In America hitmaker spoke humbly about ageing alongside her fans.

‘I think my audience have grown up with me, so there’s a sense we’re all in it together, there’s a joyfulness about that. I’m loving singing my hits, I like the way it brings my audience so much happiness and I love how generous they are to me.

‘They know I’m 61 – nobody is pretending anything; they get me warts and all.’

Tom Cruise, 61

It’s fair to say that Tom Cruise, who first shot to fame with the 1983 film Risky Business and the action 1986 film Top Gun, has aged incredibly well in the past 40 years.

In 2012, when asked whether he had had plastic surgery, Cruise told Playboy: “I haven’t, and I never would.”

Per Men’s Health, the actor credits his very active lifestyle for his appearance. ‘Sea-kayaking, caving… fencing, treadmill, weights… rock-climbing, hiking… I jog… I do so many different activities,’ he said.

Demi Moore, 61

Demi Moore first shot to fame in General Hospital in the early 80s. The star is now 61 but still looks ageless in tiny bikini in jaw-dropping snaps that she posts on her social media on a regular basis.

On the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast the actress commented on her appearance saying: ‘Skin is going, and having its own program.’

‘I have a friend who used to say, “Oh, this loose skin,” and of course my arrogance was like, “Yeah….” I had no connection to it. Now it’s hitting me of what she was talking about.’

The star also ‘100% agreed’ that women her age feel younger because of diet, exercise, modern medicine, and fitness routines.

Meryl Streep, 74

Fans have claimed on several occasions that Meryl Streep hasn’t aged a day in four decades and still looks as she did in her 80s films such as Sophie’s Choice.

Meryl has spoken about her youthful appearance and said that she tries never to touch her face, which means she avoids spreading bacteria from her hands to her skin.

In 2010 she also said that she would never turn to plastic surgery: ‘To each his own. I really understand the chagrin that accompanies ageing, especially for a woman, but I think people look funny when they freeze their faces.’

Eddie Murphy, 63

Eddie Murphy, 63, is another Hollywood heavyweight who has barely aged over the years.

In an Apple TV+ episode of The Oprah Conversation, the star spoke about how he has felt better than ever now he is in his sixties.

‘I feel great and optimistic and totally comfortable in Eddie,” he said, ‘I was always comfortable in my skin, but not like now.’

Bruce Willis, 69

Bruce Willis is another star who looks almost the same today as he did when appearing in the 80s film franchise, Die Hard. Before Bruce Willis’ dementia diagnosis was revealed to the world in 2023, the star has spoken about aging.

In 2013, the star told Everything Zoomer: ‘No. I’m completely comfortable being this age. I know, from an intellectual point of view, that I’m getting older.

‘I see myself getting older. But I don’t feel older yet. I look after myself for the most part, try to eat well.’

Vanessa Williams, 61

Vanessa Williams, who was crowned Miss America in 1984, is another celebrity who has barely aged over the years. The star said on The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2023 that she is a lot more relaxed in her older age.

Vanessa said: ‘When I was Miss America at 20 years old, my life completely changed, but also gave me the biggest kick in the a*s of my life, with life lessons.’

She added: ‘(At 60), you don’t beat yourself up the way we do when we’re in our 20s and 30s, and I gotta do this, and I gotta be this and I gotta please people.

‘There is a sense of satisfaction and ease that you get the older you get, and I’m embracing that and loving it.’
