M.I.A has called out President Joe Biden and the US government amid claims she has been prevented from seeing her son.

The Paper Planes singer welcomed her first child, 14-year-old Ikhyd, in February, 2009 – with ex-fiancé, businessman Benjamin Bronfman.

It was announced that the former couple had gone their separate ways three years later.

Taking to Twitter, the 48-year-old – real name Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam – shared her struggles to see their child, posting a screenshot stating that she is ‘ineligible’ for a US visa ‘due to her past behavior’.

In a selection of capped-up tweets, she slammed the decision, fuming: ‘Biden won’t let me see my child. The longest processing is ment to be 2 months and it’s already been that.

‘I have to wait till a Republican wins. Wow.

‘They basically saying I have to wait for a Republican to come to office because nine months from now is the election.

‘I’m not allowed to see my child for stealing food at 18, when I was poor [sic].’

M.I.A, who has supported Julian Assange in the past, revealed that she has been battling for custody since 2013.

The musician voiced her belief that she is currently being denied a visa due to publicly standing against Israel in the ongoing conflict in Palestine, and demanding for a ceasefire.

‘I’m sorry America but your ethics and morals are pretty f**ked on this,’ she continued.

‘I have shown support for Julien for 14 years and have been to the USA many times. The only thing different this time is, I called for a ceasefire and spoke out against genocide and ethnic cleansing.

‘Now I am forced to pick between my child and speaking up for what’s right by God.

‘I am happy to go to war for my child. Just like every mother. But is your monster the same as mine?’

Clarifying her comments about politics, M.I.A said: ‘Only if Republicans promise they will process my papers officially unlike the Democrats if they win.

After sharing other claims about her career, and her child’s father’s family, she concluded her string of tweets: ‘It’s the year of the dragons in Chinese New Year, and I’m ready to slay some dragons. Happy New Year.’

M.I.A. released her debut album, Arular, to huge acclaim in 2005, but was shot to superstardom in 2008 after dropping Paper Planes.

Her last album, Mata, came out in 2022, including The One, Popular and Beep.
