Famed K-pop producer found dead at 40 in his recording studio

A South Korean music producers has been found dead in his recording studio in Seoul.

Lee Ho-yang, better known by his stage name Shinsadong Tiger, was discovered by an acquaintance after they failed to reach him by phone, according to South Korean news agency Yonhap News.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Friday, but the 40-year-old was already dead.

In a statement, an officer at Gangnam Police Station said: ‘It is correct that Shinsadong Tiger was found dead, but we are unable to provide further details, including time and place of death.’

His cause of death is currently unknown.

Lee debuted as a songwriter in 2005, composing numerous chart-topping tracks, including Roly-Poly performed by T-ara, Apink’s NoNoNo, EXID’s Up&Down and Momoland’s Bboom Bboom.

In 2011, he branched into music production and founded AB Entertainment.

The company founded girl group EXID in 2012, however five years later he applied to a court to approve debt rehabilitation measures.

The process was approved later and Lee returned to work.

In 2021 he was credited as a chief producer of TR Entertainment, where he launched girl group Tri.be.

The band had released their new album Diamond this week, but have now canceled two promotional events scheduled for this weekend in the wake of the Lee’s death. 

One of the most successful producers in K-pop history, Lee picked up multiple awards and accolades in the South Korean music industry.

His death comes after South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, who was best known for his role in the Oscar-winning movie Parasite, was found dead in December after facing a police investigation into his alleged drug use.
