Alyssa Milano under fire over Super Bowl trip with son after controversial GoFundMe plea

Alyssa Milano has been met with a wave of criticism for taking her son to the 2024 Super Bowl on Sunday, weeks after asking for fans to donate to his baseball team.

The Charmed actress was previously forced to address growing backlash after she shared a GoFundMe link on social media for the Birds 12U squad, hoping to raise their goal of $10,000.

Many at the time questioned why the 51-year-old – who is thought to be a multimillionaire – had asked members of the public, branding her request ‘shameless’.

In the wake of the controversy, she was joined by her 12-year-old son, Milo, for a family day out in Las Vegas over the weekend, sharing a glimpse of the game on Instagram.

Alongside a snap from their coveted seats in Las Vegas, she simply penned: ‘My buddy. #mothersonlove #mothersonbond #superbowl.’

The cheapest tickets to the Super Bowl game directly from the NFL were around $2,000, with most going for much more – but it is not clear how much Alyssa forked out for the event, or whether the passes were gifted.

Fans were baffled by the post and questioned how she was able to attend the game after her fundraising efforts a few days ago.

‘Wow, donations must have been pretty good,’ one joked.

‘You asking for cash up and down the aisle for your son’s baseball cleats…..,’ another quipped.

‘Oh wow, you can afford the Super Bowl? @milano_alyssa,’ an unimpressed follower penned.

As a social media user questioned: ‘How can you afford these tickets but not pay for baseball travel fees?’

However, others flocked to Alyssa’s defense, slamming those who had been so rude with their responses.

An Instagram fan fumed: ‘This comment section is full of a bunch of dummies! It was a fundraiser!’

‘These negative comments are ridiculous. Alyssa, I’ve been a fan….I’m still a fan. I hope you and your son enjoy the game,’ a commenter praised.

‘People need to relax, she’s having an experience with her kid. Knock it off jeez,’ one urged.

‘As usual, some folks on here worried about things that don’t concern them. Stay out of folks’ pockets. Ya’ll worried about a fundraiser she did to support her son’s team. Why did she do it? Because that is what parents of athletes do… period,’ a social media user added in a lengthy reply.

‘The money is not for her son. All sports, dance and gymnastics included have fundraisers and sponsors. The money raised is to help families that cannot afford expenses. There is no “i” in team and fundraising is how every team member does their part to support the team.

‘If you don’t want to donate, then don’t. It’s that simple. Why on earth do ya’ll think for one moment that she did not only pay for her son’s expenses but also donate to the team? She is not responsible for funding the expenses of the entire team. Then ya’ll worried about how she got tickets for the super bowl.

‘This woman works nonstop on one project or another while also finding the time to be charitable and be an activist. Ya’ll don’t know how she got tickets. She could have been gifted them …for all ya’ll know. Ya’ll got so much time on your hands to be cruel just because. Meanwhile…what have any of ya’ll done in the last week to make the world a better place? [sic].’

Alyssa has yet to speak publicly about her Super Bowl efforts, but previously hit back at the backlash she received over the GoFundMe page she shared.

Taking to Twitter, she posted: ‘I’m getting media inquiries about whether I have financially contributed to my son’s baseball team,’ she said.

‘I’ve paid for uniforms for the entire team and coaches, thrown bday parties and sponsor any kid who can’t afford monthly dues. The kids also do fundraising themselves – car washes, movie nights, and many other fun things!

‘Thank you to all who have contributed to the gofundme! You’ve made things easier for these boys and their families.’

Donations are still flowing through, with the team smashing their goal – the fundraiser currently stands at more than $15,200 at the time of writing.

Celebrating the news, the Fear star later added: ‘Thank you to everyone who donated. Milo’s team’s #gofundme has reached their goal for #Cooperstown.

‘I so appreciate your donations in the midst of the vitriol.’
