The Disney Channel has cancelled its longest-running live-action series Bunk’d.
The comedy, a spin-off of Jessie, will draw to a close on its seventh season, with the remaining and final ten episodes to air next year.
Launched in 2015, Bunk’d revolves around the hilarious adventures of the campers and counselors at Maine’s rustic Camp Kikiwaka and has counted the likes of Peyton List and Skai Jackson among its cast.
A huge hit, Bunk’d has ranked among the top 10 series overall for children aged six to 11 across linear and streaming platforms in 2023, according to Nielsen data obtained by Deadline.
However, some fans on X have expressed relief Bunk’d is concluding, with The 789 Guy writing: ‘The later seasons of Bunk’d didn’t feel like it was a spin-off of Jessie; it became a generic summer camp show.’
‘Bunk’d is just disney’s version of riverdale with their unnecessarily long ass series,’ Ximena shared.
Breastie added: ‘Yall ever just think about how NETFLIX is the reason bunk’d was going on for so long.’
Confirming the axe to the publication, Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, said: ‘With a fantastic cast of characters and hilarious and heartful storylines, it’s no wonder Bunk’d has been one of Disney Channel’s longest-running and successful live action series.
‘We’d like to thank our talented cast, creative team and crew for bringing tremendous joy and laughter to kids for seven incredible seasons.’
Bunk’d is among several shows that have been put on the chopping block at the end of 2023 as TV commissioners reflect on the past year.
UK comedian Iain Stirling has been particularly unlucky, with not one but two of his programmes – gameshow CelebAbility and comedy Buffering – being axed.
Elsewhere, Mo Gilligan’s shows The Lateish Show and gameshow That’s My Jam were both recently taken off air, while Channel 4 fans were left devastated when Steph’s Packed Lunch aired for the final time.
Bunk’d is available to stream on Disney Plus.
