Ant and Dec appeared to make it clear this weekend that they want ITV to take a break from recruiting politicians to enter I’m A Celebrity.
The hosting duo – full names Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly – took part in a fan Q&A on Saturday when they were asked whether fans of the ITV show could ever expect to see Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in the jungle.
This year, former MEP Nigel Farage is taking part in the show and last year ex-health secretary Matt Hancock headed Down Under.
According to MailOnline, when asked about the PM popping up in Australia in the future on social media, Dec said: ‘I think we do a year without any politicians.’
‘Agreed, agreed, agreed,’ replied Ant.
When Nigel confirmed in October that he’d be taking part in this year’s I’m A Celeb, fans threatened to boycott the ITV show.
Addressing the speculation during his GB News show at the time, Nigel said: ‘Unlike previous years, I am giving it very, very serious consideration.
‘Why? Well you’ve got about 10million young people who watch that programme. These are people who don’t really watch the news or read newspapers, but they still care about the country they live in and their futures, and actually, in many ways, the futures of young people in Britain had been blighted.
‘They haven’t got the same opportunities that their parents and grandparents had and they’d love to look for solutions.’
He continued: ‘So in my mind, if I was to do it, I might be able to connect with that audience, because goodness me they all watch I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
It didn’t take long for disgruntled fans to take to social media, with some threatening to boycott this year’s I’m A Celeb if Nigel joined the celebrity cast.
One person wrote: ‘I love I’m a Celeb, but I genuinely don’t think I can watch it with Nigel Farage. I mean, Matt was bad enough!’
Another added on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘It’s a no from me re I’m a Celeb Nigel.’
‘I’m a Celeb has just fully ruined all of its credibility. First Matt Hancock. Now Nigel Farage? Wtf is wrong with our country,’ raged someone else.
Other comments included: ‘I’m a celeb is my tv guilty pleasure. If you are on it I will turn off’ and ‘ITV stop being so desperate.’
