Disney Plus viewers have been left in shock at a new thriller starring Emma Corrin, that’s actually from the creators of The OA.
The Netflix series, starring and created by Brit Marling, was devastatingly cancelled after two seasons.
It followed Marling as Prairie Johnson, a woman who returns to society seven years after going missing, before revealing she was in another dimension and recruits a small team to help rescue other people who have disappeared.
While viewers were gripped, and there were even plans for season three in place, it came as a shock when it was announced it would be axed, as instead of tying up all the plotlines and neatly finishing up, the finale saw another dimension of reality opened.
But now, Marling and co-creator Zal Batmanglij have left viewers gushing over their newest project: A Murder at the End of the World.
The series, alongside The Crown star Corrin, sees Clive Owen, Harris Dickinson and Alice Braga as well as Marling take on roles.
The synopsis for the murder mystery reads: ‘Gen Z amateur sleuth Darby Hart is invited to participate in a retreat at a remote location.’
But of course, the retreat turns into something far darker when Darby attempts to solve a murder before the killer succeeds again.
While only four episodes have dropped on Disney Plus so far, viewers are hooked, and the series has scored an impressive 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
‘I felt compelled to watch to the end: it’s beautifully acted (Owen is downright unnerving), and the story, while conducted at a maddening pace, is atmospheric and deeply intriguing,’ one person wrote.
Someone else praised: ‘The denouement, when it comes, is ingenious. If Agatha Christie had lived to the digital age, she’d surely approve.’
Following the most recent episode launching on the streaming platform, someone else penned: ‘Just finished S1 E4 of A Murder at the End of the World… GREAT end to the episode. A nice little twist thrown in. I’ll admit that my jaw dropped right as I heard it happen. Now, we wait for next Tuesday. Great stuff.’
Someone else wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: ‘If there is one thing Brit Marling is going to do is make some of the best intelligent & creative tv ever & it will be severely underrated but have a cult fan base she did it with the OA & is doing it again with A Murder at the End of the World.’
‘I’m completely enthralled and obsessed with @britmarling’s A Murder At The End of the World on Hulu. If you liked her show The OA on Netflix, or love a good murder mystery, a love story, or The Crown’s Emma Corrin (Princess Di), or have an interest in the perils and hopes surrounding technology, artificial intelligence, climate change, futurism etc – please watch this!! It is all the things. I need more people to discuss!’ someone else said.
Another penned: ‘It’s so amazing to watch @britmarling on A Murder at the End of the World. So talented and always sophisticated, statuesque. The show is Phenomenal like every Zal / Brit project. OA fans are United again,’ while someone else echoed: ‘Between the oa and murder at the end of the world, brit marlings work truly excites me in a way television really hasn’t yet… in a way that I thought only film could. Baby’s got style.’
A Murder at the End of the World is available to watch on Disney Plus, with new episodes dropping weekly.
