Anticipation couldn’t have been higher for the Arctic Monkeys’ headline set at Glastonbury 2023, especially after lead singer Alex Turner was struck by laryngitis just earlier this week.
But for fans trying to watch on time at home on BBC iPlayer, several were left sorely disappointed when the livestream appeared to start a few minutes after the Pyramid Stage performance had begun.
Despite reports that the spectacle had started with the frontman belting out Sculptures Of Anything Goes, before launching into an energetic rendition of Brianstorm, minutes went by before the stream seemed to catch up.
‘Arctic Monkeys where r uuuu got my BBC iplayer ready and waiting,’ one frustrated fan tweeted.
‘WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU @BBCiPlayer, someone else said, while another wrote: ‘BBC IPLAYER WAKE UP.’
Just earlier this week, the Arctic Monkeys had to pull out of a concert after Alex was advised by medical professionals to rest due to his laryngitis diagnosis.
In a statement released by the band, they said: ‘We are extremely sorry to announce the cancellation of Arctic Monkeys’ show at Marlay Park in Dublin tomorrow,’ they wrote on social media.
‘Alex is suffering from acute laryngitis and following medical advice, has been ordered to rest.’
The band and Alex apologised for the ‘huge disappointment’, adding that ‘full refunds’ would be credited to those who had bought tickets for the gig.
