Full Barbie trailer teases trouble for Margot Robbie in the real world as she and Ryan Gosling’s Ken get arrested

The main Barbie movie trailer is here – and our excitement levels just soared through the roof.

Starring Margot Robbie, 32, as the doll herself and Ryan Gosling, 42, as Ken, the Greta Gertwig project is one of the most anticipated films of 2023.

It’s no surprise, really, given that it boasts a starry cast including Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicola Coughlan, Dame Helen Mirren, and more.

While we’ve been kept in the dark about the plot previously, we now know how the drama is set to unfold.

The full trailer for the colourful flick sees Barbie and Ken leave their pink paradise (well, Barbie leaves, Ken tags along) to discover what life is like ‘in the real world’.

Barbie initially starts experiencing some weird goings-on, as she begins having unusual thoughts about dying, falling off her roof, and, to everyone’s horror, her feet are flat!

Honestly, the latter was the most terrifying of all, as her fellow Barbies let out shrieks of disgust as they realised her heels now touch the ground.

Seeking advice, Barbie takes a trip to Kate McKinnon’s character who sends her on a journey to get to ‘know the truth about the universe’.

So, Barbie gets in her pink car and reluctantly leaves Barbieland behind – and it isn’t long until she starts to feel out of place.

While rollerskating with Ken (yes, in those incredible neon outfits), she notices strangers are staring at her, with one man even running up to smack her bum.

But in a truly iconic response, Barbie is hot to retaliate, punching him right in the face – go Barbie!

Alas, she ends up getting arrested, although we can’t lie, her mug shot was stunning.

As Barbie’s life in the real world begins to unravel, Will Ferrell’s corporate character and his team embark on a mission to get her back in her plastic world.

‘If this got out, this could mean extremely weird things for our world,’ he says.

‘This would be catastrophic!’

‘No one rests until this doll is back in a box,’ he says defiantly.

The whole thing looks to be utterly chaotic, with Barbie involved in high-speed car chases as the powers that be attempt to capture her and send her home, while she’s even rejected when trying to make friends with school girls because they’re now too old to play with dolls.

But, it seems a happy ending could be on the horizon, as one kind lady reminds her: ‘Humans only have one ending, ideas live forever.’

And as if all of that wasn’t enough – the sequins, the glitter, the incredible sets, the epic costumes, the hair, the make-up, ALL OF IT, well, the trailer even gives us a preview of the soundtrack.

Featuring Dua Lipa – who also appears as a Mermaid Barbie – Lizzo, Haim, Nicki Minaj, Ava Max, and even Mr Ryan Gosling himself, the tunes sound like true summer bangers, providing a playlist for the Barbies’ dance parties.

Meanwhile, the nostalgic movie’s taglines promise to provide entertainment for all – and we live for it.

‘If you love Barbie, this movie is for you,’ it teases.

‘If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you,’ it adds.

Honestly, we’re running out of words to describe how buzzing we are to make this film our entire personality.

Barbie is in cinemas on July 21.
