Mae Muller was clearly in her element at the Eurovision’s Turquoise Carpet in Liverpool for the opening ceremony, blowing kisses and flashing peace signs for the cameras.
Hosted by Olympian Sam Quek and Ukrainian presenter Timur Miroshnychenko, all 37 acts were welcomed with open arms to the city on Sunday afternoon, ahead of the grand final on Saturday.
Singer Mae, 25, who is representing the UK with her dance banger I Wrote A Song, appeared in a playful mood for the ceremony, and struck a variety of poses while fans looked on.
She commanded attention in a lilac dress, which featured a hood and flared cuff detailing.
Norwegian act Alessandra was first to arrive on the carpet, where entrants had their photos taken and were interviewed.
‘I feel so blessed,’ she said. ‘I feel so nice here. I’m the first one out and that’s an honour.’
Let 3, who are repping Croatia, arrived on the carpet in gowns and hats before whipping them off to reveal white petticoats and vests underneath.
Meanwhile, Latvian group Sudden Lights honoured Liverpool’s most famous band the Beatles by recreating the outfits worn on the Abbey Road album cover.
The ceremony will be followed by The National Lottery’s Big Eurovision Welcome outside St George’s Hall.
A number of artists are on the line-up to perform for 30,000 fans, including Frankie Goes To Hollywood, who are reuniting after their split in 1987.
Other acts with a link to Liverpool are on the line-up, including Atomic Kitten, The Real Thing, and The Lightning Seeds, who sang the football anthem Three Lions.
Former Eurovision winners Conchita Wurst, who represented Austria in 2014, and Ukraine’s Jamala, who competed in 2016, are also due to perform.
Highlights of the concert, hosted by AJ Odudu and Joel Dommett, will be shown on BBC One on Monday.
Liverpool is hosting the Eurovision grand final next Saturday on behalf of last year’s winners Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.
The first Eurovision semi-final will take place on Tuesday.
