Astonishing moment protester knocked to the floor by camera after storming final of Sweden’s Strictly Come Dancing

Audiences watching Sweden’s version of Strictly Come Dancing on Friday night witnessed two climate protesters storming the stage – before quickly being shut down.

Climate activists from the Restore Wetlands group ran on stage during the grand final of Let’s Dance, while two competitors were dancing.

In an astonishing clip, the pair run into the centre of the dance floor, one throwing what looked like yellow powder and the other holding up a sign.

Within seconds of them arriving on stage however, a camera operator swiftly stopped them in their tracks – by slamming a camera into one of the protester’s face.

The male protester had the sign over his face and didn’t see an overhead rig with a camera swing down, and he was knocked to the floor as it hit him.

Security is then seen swiftly dragging the pair off the stage – and the entire time, competitors Charlotte Kalla and Tobias Karlsson continue with their dance.

Three people are reported to have been questioned by the police on suspicion of vandalism.

It’s understood the protesters were seated in the audience, and left their seats for the stunt.

A statement from one of the activists, Tina, translated from Swedish, says the climate situation is ‘urgent’ and they ‘cannot sit in the audience seat and just watch as our lives are threatened by climate collapse.’

‘We want nothing more than to have fun and I also love to dance. But my future will be anything but full of pleasure,’ she added.

Disruptions from climate activists have exploded in recent years, with the likes of Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil regularly making headlines for their stunts to draw attention to the climate crisis.

From throwing soup on paintings of Vincent Van Gogh’s sunflowers, to invading the pitch at Twickenham and even causing havoc at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Arguably the world’s most famous climate protester, Greta Thunberg, of course hails from Sweden, and there have been a number of disruptions in the country in recent weeks.

In February, Swedish Eurovision star Loreen had her performance interrupted by Restore Wetlands climate activists as she hoped to qualify to represent Sweden for a second time in Liverpool.

(Side note – she of course did qualify, and went on to win for a second time.)

However the star didn’t have any bad faith towards the protester, and told Escxtra after the show that she first thought there was a technical issue before she noticed the ‘beautiful little activist’ on stage with her.
