Kate Garraway and her family marked Earth Day over the weekend by planting a magnolia tree in their garden.

Kate, 55, explained that she’d been tending to plants with her two children’s grandad when the whole family appeared out of nowhere.

The Good Morning Britain star’s fans were delighted by the fun family snaps she posted on social media, but were particularly happy to see Kate’s husband Derek Draper, who she cosied up to for a selfie.

Kate has been caring for Derek, also 55, since he contracted a severe case of coronavirus in 2020 but fans were quick to point out how well he looked.

His and Kate’s two kids Billie and Darcy also got stuck into a bit of gardening and could be seen in the background of Kate’s post, along with their grandad.

Kate penned: ‘Funny how it was just grandad & I for the digging & planting & then suddenly everyone appears when up!’

The doting mum added: ‘Crowning a very special weekend with the Drapers (Aunty Sue & grandma you are here in spirit) by planting a magnolia tree for #earthday. Happy Sunday everyone.’

Her social media followers were quick to rave about Derek, with one person writing: ‘I know it may not be the case but Derek looks really well,’ and another echoing ‘Derek is looking well so good to see.’

Other similar remarks included: ‘Derek looks well good to see’ and ‘Awww Derek looks really well.’

The family’s day in the garden comes almost a week after they were serenaded by none other than Sir Elton John at his London show on Monday.

Sir Elton, 76, dedicated Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me to Kate and her family and footage of the incredible moment was shared on GMB earlier this week.

Speaking on Wednesday morning, Kate explained to GMB viewers: ‘We managed to get Derek to see Elton play, and that was Elton’s goal because he’s been so supportive throughout.

‘So, we went along, we made it happen.’

She added: ‘So that was enough, we were crying from the second we walked in to the 02. Then completely surreally, this happened.’

Footage of Sir Elton on stage this week then popped up on screen, and the world-famous hitmaker told the crowd: ‘The two people that I’m so thrilled that are here, because they’ve been through hell over the last three of four years, are Kate Garraway and Derek and the kids.’

Sir Elton added: ‘To say that they’ve been through a lot is an understatement of huge proportions.

‘They’ve been inspiring and they’ve never given up. I want to dedicate this song especially to you guys.’
