Jennifer Coolidge is set to be crowned a ‘comedic genius’ at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, and we are seriously here for it.
After her efforts in the second season of the White Lotus had us all in stitches – and then in tears – the 61-year-old has landed the top honor at the ceremony.
MTV bosses confirmed the news this week, ahead of next month’s ceremony, held at the Barker Hangar in LA on May 7.
The coveted trophy ‘honors actors who have made incomparable contributions to the world of comedy, providing a major influence through their work and transforming the genre at large’, according to the network.
Jennifer is following in some very funny footsteps, as previous recipients include Jack Black, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell, Kevin Hart and Melissa McCarthy.
Not too shabby.
It is set to be a star-studded night with Tom Cruise, Selena Gomez, Harry Styles, Joseph Quinn and Keke Palmer among those up for awards, while Drew Barrymore is on hand to host the proceedings.
The actress has had an incredibly successful haul during the latest awards season, nabbing a Golden Globe, a SAG gong and a Critics’ Choice trophy for her role as Tanya McQuoid on the White Lotus.
Last month, Jane Lynch presented her with GLAAD’s social impact award in a surprise move at the ceremony.
Jennifer became a firm fan favorite on the first series of the HBO dramedy, and returned for a second stay at the now-infamous hotel chain in season two.
However, it wasn’t quite the idyllic break that her character was looking for and she ended up falling to her death in the final moments of the season finale – while trying to escape a yacht after she learned of a secret plot to kill her.
Ever since the episode aired, viewers have been desperately grasping at any theory which could see Tanya returning.
Jennifer recently dashed everyone’s dreams when she revealed that she probably won’t be checking into a White Lotus resort in season three.
‘He sort of sticks to his guns,’ she told E! News of creator Mike White. ‘He’s an amazing friend, but I think he made his decision.
‘He wanted a big, dramatic, Italian operatic ending for White Lotus 2, and he wanted to sacrifice Tanya.’
