As it seems clear the cost of living crisis will be sticking around for a while yet, many Britons have been looking at what help is out there.

Inflation unexpectedly rose in February, affecting everything from the cost of loans to mortgage repayments.

Bills across the board have become more expensive, from energy and water to your average weekly food shop.

The rising cost of living has left many trying to scrimp and save wherever they can while the Government endeavors to tackle inflation.

However, many households will be looking at what government support is available in May to help ease the strain

So what help can you expect next month? Here’s what Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) payments will be coming your way.

Millions of people will receive the first third of the £900 cost of living payments due this year.

Payments for eligible recipients will begin to arrive on April 25, and continue until May 17 for those on DWP benefits.

For those on tax credits and no other low-income benefits, the payment is set to be sent out from May 2 to May 9.

The second £301 installment is expected to be sent out in autumn 2023, while the third £299 payment is expected to arrive in spring 2024.

It was previously announced the cost of living payments, which began last year to ease the strain of the crisis for all those struggling, would be renewed for 2023.

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said: ‘We are sticking by our promise to protect the most vulnerable and these payments, worth hundreds of pounds, will provide vital support next year for those on the lowest incomes.

‘The government’s wider support package has already helped more than eight million families as we continue to deal with the global consequences of Putin’s illegal war and the aftershocks of the pandemic.’

The DWP has two other cost of living payments due to be made later in the year to help those struggling.

One of those payments is designed to support those living with mental or physical disabilities and is due summer 2023.

Another is designed for pensioners and is due from November 2023 alongside the Winter Fuel Payment).
