Even the most ardent flyers know the trepidation that can come with a plane taking off. But to nervous flyers, the whole experience of being up in the air can be a heart-racing one.
One flight attendant, however, came to work prepared to deal with their worried passengers.
Delta flight attendant Floyd Dean-Shannon was pictured not only chatting to a nervous flyer but sitting with her and talking through the turbulence on a US flight.
While flying from North Carolina to JFK airport in New York on a Delta subsidiary airline, Endeavor Air, Floyd noticed that a woman had been scared during turbulence.
He then decided to kneel next to her and explain every sound and bump felt by passengers.
After a picture of the sweet moment was shared on Facebook, the image went viral, with many other nervous flyers wishing they had Floyd as a flight attendant.
Floyd, who has since received lots of media attention, said he decided to step in after seeing that the woman was visibly distressed and had been sweating.
On the Delta website, Floyd was quoted as saying: ‘As a flight attendant, you set the tone. As a passenger, I would want to be treated the same way. I have to remember; I was in that seat, too.’
According to Delta, Floyd and the passenger have since become Facebook friends. ‘She now wants me with her on every single flight,’ Floyd said on Delta’s website.
If you don’t have a Floyd on your next flight, these tips on coping with a fear of flying may help instead.
