Aaron Carter was missing from the Grammys In Memoriam package – and his fiancée is not happy.
The child star and US rapper was found at his home in California on November 5, with representatives later confirming in a statement that he had died at the age of 34.
His brother, Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter, led tributes after the sad news was confirmed.
On Sunday, February 5, the 65th annual Grammy Awards took a moment to remember those from music we’ve lost over the past year, with artists taking to the stage to perform.
There were nods to Loretta Lynn, with a performance of Coal Miner’s Daughter by country star Kacey Musgraves, Jeff Beck, David Crosby, Terry Hall, Dame Olivia Newton-John and Coolio.
Depeche Mode’s Andy Fletcher was celebrated, as was Lisa Marie Presley, who died in January.
Christine McVie was also honoured as Sheryl Crow teamed up with Mick Fleetwood and Bonnie Raitt for a rendition of Songbird.
However, it was obvious to many fans that Carter wasn’t mentioned, leaving partner Melanie Martin furious.
She blasted the Recording Academy – the organisation behind the Grammys – in an angry post on Instagram.
‘Really @recordingacademy how do you dare leave Aaron Carter off of the memorial tribute for musicians lost in 2022,’ she wrote.
Melanie added a picture of Carter attending the Grammys as a child.
She continued: ‘He is a multi-platinum recording artist accomplished before he was even a teen. He is the most influential child in pop culture in the 90s-00s era and had been attending this show since a very young age.
‘This is so unacceptable, outrageous, vile and deplorable.’
Melanie shares a child with Carter, a son who was born in November 2021.
Their tumultuous relationship was well documented, as he and Melanie were on and off, with baby Prince later going to live with her mother.
Despite not being mentioned during the live show at the Crypto.com Arena, Carter was named in the In Memoriam segment in physical copy of the official Grammys program.
This wasn’t good enough for fans, though, as they took to Twitter to express their anger.
‘Why the heck wasn’t Aaron carter included in the memoriam part of the #GRAMMYs ??? That was cold,’ a fan questioned.
Taking matters into their own hands, another shared: ‘Since @RecordingAcad didn’t, I will: In memoriam of Aaron Carter – you deserved more. more recognition, love & time.
Others branded the ceremony an ‘absolute joke’, as they praised Carter for ‘shaping my childhood’.
