When it’s cold and dark outside, there’s nothing more comforting than relaxing with a few candles dotted around the house.
And if you’ve been treated to some triple-wick candles for Christmas, a hack on TikTok reveals how you can avoid burning your fingers in the lighting process.
TikTok user Sidney Raz – who has more than 2.3 million followers on the platform – has shared his simple solution, which will save you money on matches and lighter fluid, too.
In his 29-second video, Sidney reveals that you don’t need to light them one by one. Instead, you can simply light one and manouevre the candle to ignite the others.
He says: ‘Here’s something I wish I actually knew before I was in my thirties – how you’re actually supposed to light a candle with more than one wick.
‘You do not light them one by one.
‘You light one and then use that to light the others.’
Sidney can be seen using his lighter on just one of the wicks in the triple candle.
He then moves the candle around, in order to light the other two wicks with the first flame.
It’s safe to say that people have been blown away by his easy-yet-effective trick.
One person replied to his video: ‘I’VE BEEN STRUGGLING AND BURNING MY FINGER FOR NO REASON?!’
Another added: ‘At this point, I’m pretty sure you’ve taught me more than my parents.’
Of course, if you’re looking for other helpful candle hacks, don’t forget there’s a way to prevent ‘tunnelling’ – in other words, when wax is left around the edge.
There are also a number of DIY tricks to ensure you get every little bit out of your candles, such as making new ones with leftover wax.
