There are a number of things that can add value to a property – from painting the interiors a neutral shade to upgrading bathroom hardware.
But new research has found another easy way to increase a house’s worth, and it’s hardly surprising considering it’s something we are always on the lookout for – smart storage.
Even small properties can feel bigger with some creative storage solutions and it seems potential buyers are willing to fork out more for a home that offers exactly that.
Fitted furniture specialists Hammonds Furniture surveyed 2,000 people on how much more they’d be willing to pay for a home with ample storage space – and the results are incredibly interesting.
They found the average person would be happy to part with another £12,500 for spacious storage.
What’s more, 84% of participants said it was ‘essential’ or ‘very important’ when hunting for a new home.
In fact, 28% stated this was more important than a home office and 15% said they would prioritise it over a garden.
The type of storage also plays a role – with a garage coming in as the most desired option, with 42% of respondents revealing they were prepared to pay more for one.
Spare bedrooms and utility rooms were also sought-after solutions, with 42% and 40% (respectively) saying they would put in a higher offer for properties with these additional storage spaces.
