Proof that if you can see the potential in something ordinary, brilliant things can happen.
When Marcus Williams and partner Helen Ambler discovered an old lorry trailer they could nab, they jumped at the chance.
Not because they had dreams of working as drivers, mind you. Instead, they wanted to transform the 44ft-long HGV into a dreamy home.
Spending £55,000 and 18 months on the conversion, the couple managed to complete the ambitious makeover.
Now, their ‘Lorry Lodge’ is a roomy home that sleeps four people and can be moved to any location.
Inside, there’s a double-bedroom with built-in wardrobes, a separate sofa bed, a bathroom (complete with a shower and a compostable toilet), a cottage-style kitchen, a large folding dining table to save space, and a log burner.
There are solar panels to make the most of being out on the road.
The couple, from Ripon, West Yorkshire, originally planned to take the lorry out and travel the world, but now they have a different plan.
Marcus and Helen, who are expecting their first child together, plan to raffle off the lorry trailer so they can fund an even bigger project.
Engineer Marcus, 26, said: ‘The idea of the a lorry appealed to us because of the space it would provide.
‘It was quite a long process converting it but we are really pleased with the finished result.
‘It’s a stunning off-grid home which can be towed anywhere.’
The duo haven’t revealed what their next big project will be just yet, but they’re hoping to sell up to 4,000 raffle tickets at £20 a pop to go towards it.
Marcus added: ‘It’s a great opportunity to own your own off-grid home.
‘Once it’s raffled we plan to take some time out to plan our next project.’
If you’re keen to have a chance of winning the trailer-turned-home-on-wheels, you can enter through the Raffall site.
