While last year’s Guy Fawkes Night festivities were dampened by the pandemic – with bonfires and firework displays across the country cancelled – this year is shaping up to be better than ever.
With a number of bonfire night events already announced across the country, we’re expecting to bring the autumnal event back with a bang – or not.
Silent and quiet firework displays are picking up speed this year: the loud bangs that accompany firework displays can cause severe anxiety in people and pets.
Namely, people with autism and people suffering from specific kinds of PTSD can be startled and triggered by the noise.
Dogs and other animals are known to become spooked by fireworks, causing anxiety.
In short, silent and low noise firework displays can mean more people can access them.
That’s why Metro.co.uk is rounding up some of the quieter bonfire night celebrations in 2021 – so no one has to miss out on the fun:
Silent Firework Display at White Horse Hotel, Rottingdean
Friday 5 November, 9pm
The White Horse Hotel in Rottingdean, Brighton is putting on its very first silent firework display this year.
Aiming to be family – and pet! – friendly, the organisers have opted to ditch actual fireworks and instead project their display onto the back of the building, leaving guests with ‘all of the atmosphere, none of the bangs’.
Towcester Firework Frenzy, Towcester Racecourse
Friday 5 November, 6pm
Another new event, the organisers at Towcester Firework Frenzy are hoping to put on a quiet yet magical night over at the racecourse.
Not only will this event feature a silent firework display, it will also have a laser display and drone display, all with accompanying music, as well as a funfair!
Under-5s go free, but adult tickets are currently on sale for £27.70.
Alderford Lake, Whitchurch, Shropshire
Saturday 6 November, 5pm
Alderford Lake, one of north Shropshire’s largest outdoor nature reserves, is featuring a sound sensitive firework display before their main display (which will be noisy!) in order to accommodate everyone this year.
Their bonfire and firework ‘extravaganza’ will kick off at 5pm, with the sound sensitive show starting at 7pm, followed by the not-so-quiet display at 8pm.
Tickets are £11.95 for adults and £9.95 for kids.
Beckenham Fireworks in the Park
Saturday 6 November, 5pm
Beckenham Fireworks in the Park is a family-friendly fireworks display for Bonfire Night that has been run since 1946.
This year, the organisers are continuing their tradition of having a quieter display before the main display, starting at 6pm – although this one will feature ‘some small bangs’.
Tickets are on sale for £10 for adults, £5 for children aged over 11, or £20 for a family ticket. Kids under 11 go free.
Epsom Fireworks and Funfair
Saturday 6 November, 5:30pm
Another dual-display, the organisers of Epson Fireworks and Funfair, in Surrey, will be putting on a low level, low noise display earlier in the evening, before their main event.
The low noise display features every year and attendees will be able to see all of the displays with just one ticket.
Tickets are on sale for £10-12, while kids under 5 go free.
