Everyone treats themselves to some fast food from time to time, but this TikTok clip might put you off.
A woman shared a video of her nutritionist mum’s cupboard, which contains drawers of food that she claims will ‘never go off.’
The TikTok user, known as @elifgkandemir, from Essex, gave her followers a glimpse inside the cupboard where her mum keeps McDonald’s chicken nuggets, burgers and chips, pick ‘n’ mix sweets, sausage rolls, pizza and doughnuts.
She says her mum has kept the ‘junk food’ in the drawers for two years to make a point that they don’t spoil like unprocessed food.
‘This is my mum’s food cupboard full of foods that never go off. My mum is a nutritionist helping to tackle obesity,’ says the TikTok user in the clip.
‘These foods shown here are ultra-processed foods that 80% of the UK consume on a regular basis.’
The post has received over hundreds of thousands of likes and loads of comments from shocked social media users.
The TikTokker followed up the original clip with even more shocking information about the food in her mum’s drawers.
‘Most of this food she’s been collecting over the last two years, so most of it is one to two years old,’ she says.
‘80% of the UK are now eating this diet, probably without knowledge of what they are eating, a recent documentary by BBC One titled “What Are We Feeding Our Kids” involved Dr Chris van Tulleken eating this kind of diet exclusively for a period of a month with devastating results.
‘And though it is true, that you can have anything and everything in moderation, 80% of a person’s diet should not be made up of these foods.
‘No food is off-limits, my mum is simply trying to encourage people to make better food decisions and live a happier, healthier lifestyle.’
Whether you love or loathe fast food, most of us can probably agree that nothing edible should look exactly the same after two years in a cupboard.
But some people in the comments couldn’t really see the point of the experiment.
‘Why on earth would someone make such an effort to organise stale food?’ asked one.
‘I thought this was a snack cupboard,’ said another.
We’re not sure the food in these drawers would taste all that good.
