The moment Gaëlle Engel, 43, from France, laid eyes on Sky Scream, she knew it was love.
The couple met at Holiday Park in Hassloch, Germany, and had an instant attraction.
They’ve since been dating for five years.
We should probably mention that Sky Scream is not your average man… because he’s a rollercoaster.
Gaëlle Engel has long been sexually attracted to objects, but her bond with Sky Scream’s metal frame is so much more than that.
‘You could say that I’m sexually drawn to rollercoasters but since I met the Sky Scream rollercoaster, I understood what love was,’ Gaëlle said.
‘I spend every moment dreaming of a carnal and fusional relationship with it.’
The relationship is a welcome change from Gaëlle’s experience of dating men.
The artist has had three serious relationships with humans before, but found they didn’t make her happy.
‘I will not philosophise on these relationships that ruined my life but it was only suffering, physical and moral,’ she explained.
‘The men I dated had a lot of issues with alcohol and it was a very hard time for me.
‘But with Sky Scream, I feel completely confident.’
Unfortunately, dating a rollercoaster does have its ups and downs. It can be a rocky ride.
Sky Scream is in a theme park, so it’s not easy for the couple to meet up, and Gaëlle is unable to have a physical relationship with the ride.
To help them feel closer, she collects objects that represent him, such as a photo board of Sky Scream and a pillow printed with a picture of the rollercoaster, which Gaëlle hugs every day.
She said: ‘I see him so infrequently.
‘But life made me understand that sex was not a priority in my relationship, especially following the difficulties and trials we encountered in not being able to see each other.
‘So I collect the objects that represent him in order to stay connected to him – the love follows me everywhere.”
‘And then, of course, I have the whole collection of objects that I bought from the theme park.’
The artist also creates model works of various rollercoasters, which are on display around her home.
She says they’re almost like children that she’s had with Sky Scream.
The relationship isn’t perfect – it’s not easy dating a rollercoaster – but Gaëlle is happier than ever.
‘Sky Scream inspires me a lot in everything I write and draw,’ she said.
‘Since I met the Sky Scream rollercoaster, I understood what Love was with a capital L.’
