Is buying a house your big goal for 2021?
If you’re not set on a particular location, you’ll want to read on.
Zoopla has revealed the most affordable areas in Britain to buy property right now, so you can take your pick of the cheapest options.
Oh, and if you do need to be in a particular city for work reasons, don’t stress, as they’ve also narrowed down the most affordable places to buy homes within London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
So, where should you be searching if you’re keen to jump on the property ladder?
Shildon, County Durham, takes the top spot as the most affordable town in Britain. That’s not a massive surprise, as it’s been the cheapest place to buy for the last few years, but we could always do with a reminder.
In Shildon, a house will set you back an average of just £59,468. Londoners, we know you’re in pain right now, and we apologise.
Across the top five, you’re looking at Scotland and the North West as affordable property hotspots.
Ferryhill, also in County Durham, comes in at seventh place, while in Scotland, towns in Ayrshire dominate.
These ratings aren’t just based on where the cheapest properties are, to be clear.
To calculate the most affordable places, Zoopla analysed house price to earnings ratios, too, based on a two-earner household on the average salary for the local area.
Shall we get into the list?
The most affordable towns in Britain and their average house price:
