A striking circular home with 360-degree panoramic views that take in town, country and coast has on the market for £1.25m.
The aptly-named Round House is an Italianate-style property with a roof terrace that runs all the way around the top of the property.
The five-bedroom house is on the edge of Ilfracombe, Devon, next to a 15-acre nature reserve, historic woodland and the sea.
It is on the market with estate agents Stags and includes a three-bedroom cottage, a potential building plot and an acre of beautifully-kept gardens.
The Round House was built in 1910 by a local builder who was challenged to create a circular property.
He sadly died before he could complete it, but his son finished the build for him.
The property, which is not listed, has several notable architectural features, including twin turrets that flank the main entrance and a rotunda viewing gallery with access to the roof terrace.
Inside there are some ornate plaster ceilings, original Arts and Crafts fireplaces and Gothic style arched doors and all the principal rooms have beautiful views.
The main house has 3,108 sq ft of living space with a hall, kitchen, breakfast room, drawing room, dining room, utility, sitting room, five bedrooms and the top floor rotunda room.
The owners have run it as a successful holiday let for the last 20 years, and lived in the detached cottage, but are now retiring.
The colourful landscaped gardens, created by a botanical gardener, have frequently won awards for Ilfracombe in Bloom.
There is land in the lower garden that could potentially be developed to create a separate detached dwelling and across the lane the property has a detached double garage, ornamental pond, a further garden area and light woodland.
Simon Forman, from Stags, said: ‘I think the Round House is totally unique, it reminds me of the Martello Towers that were built on the coast, but this was actually built as a bit of a challenge.
‘A local builder was challenged to build a circular property. Sadly, he died before he could finish it but his son completed the build.
‘It’s positioned next to Cairn Nature Reserve and elevated so gets fabulous sea views.
‘It’s very rare to get a property with 360-degree views. From the roof terrace you can see the town, countryside and the sea.
‘One of the owners was the head of botanical gardens in Manchester so they created these fantastic gardens.
‘The property is very versatile. There was a gazebo in the garden which has then become the cottage and there’s a potential building plot in the garden.
‘The owners lived in the cottage and rented out the Round House, but you could rent out both, live in one and rent one out, or keep it all private and use the cottage as guest accommodation for visitors.
‘They’ve been there over 20 years so this is a rare opportunity for someone to buy it. And unusually it’s not listed so you could alter it much more easily if you wanted to.’
