If lockdown has united us in one experience, it’s boredom.
While some of us baked and others got really into puzzles, one woman’s creative pursuit is a little different from the norm.
Amy Sayers, 35, used her time in the pandemic to craft a doll-sized version of the pub she owns, the Swan Inn in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
She devoted more than 300 hours to the task of making pint-sized versions of every detail of the establishment.
The landlady had plenty of time to dedicate to the project, as her pub was forced to shut due to Covid-19.
Amy said she needed something to keep her mind busy when she wasn’t able to serve customers at the Swan Inn.
The ‘micro-pub’ was built to a 1:12 scale and was decorated using the same paints as the real inn.
She even used fabric from the underside of the bench from the real pub and used an off-cut of the real bar floor while hand-crafting parts.
The doll’s house comes complete with cardboard models of regulars, beer pumps made from matchsticks and even a newspaper rack.
Amy, who has run the pub for five years, said: ‘I needed to keep my mind busy, the novelty of lockdown had worn off by this point.
‘About six to eight hours of my day has been taken working on it, in between homeschooling too.
‘I keep finding little bits to add to it, it needs some more tables and guttering adding.
‘But it is pretty much finished now, I am so happy with it.’
Most of the parts were made from scratch, but for some bits, such as a tiny version of her pub’s cash till, Amy relied on independent retailers on Etsy.
She snapped photos of the mini pub throughout its construction, and received a brilliant response online.
‘The reaction has been amazing since I put it on social media,’ said Amy.
‘I will put it inside the pub when we can have people back in again, so many have asked to see it.
‘I think I will try and put my new skills to use to build a new full size shelf for it to sit on, in a glass box maybe.
‘If I was to recreate it again there are things I would do differently but other people don’t seem to see it like that.
‘I couldn’t believe the reaction it has got.
‘It has been amazing and I have loved working on it.’
