On Mother’s Day (that’s March 14 this year, in case you’d forgotten) and beyond, every mum deserves to feel loved.
That goes for cats, too.
So we’re glad that Ivy, a sweet one-year-old cat who was abandoned while heavily pregnant, has found a home in time for the big day.
Ivy was discovered trapped on a housing estate along with three other cats.
While those other cats were quickly given a clean bill of health and sent on to new homes, pregnant Ivy needed to stay with a foster carer to help her through the journey to become a mum to two kittens, named Ivan and Ivana.
Now, three months on from her arrival at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Ivy has found her perfect home.
Battersea’s cattery team leader, Georgia Randall, said: ‘Ivy is such a sweet, sensitive girl and although it’s always a little sad to see our cats go after a long stay with us, we’re so happy that she has now gone to a new home where she will be a much-loved pet for many years to come.
‘Despite her young age she proved herself to be a fantastic mum and now that her kittens have grown and gone on to new homes of their own, we hope this Mother’s Day she gets to put her paws up and receive the fuss and love that she deserves.’
The team at Battersea are sharing Ivy’s story for an important reason – and not just to remind you to send your mum some flowers in time for Mother’s Day.
They hope that they can urge any owners who are struggling to look after pets to reach out for support, rather than leaving animals alone and abandoned to suffer.
‘We will never know what led to someone abandoning Ivy and her siblings, we can only imagine that it must have been a difficult or desperate decision,’ said Georgia.
‘However, we would urge anyone unable to care for their pets to contact a rescue centre rather than leaving an animal alone and helpless, as this can put them at terrible risk.
‘Battersea is always here to support struggling owners and we will never judge anyone for asking for help.’
