Alternatives to regular deodorant (if you’re looking to make the switch to natural or aluminium free)

Natural deodorants
Natural deodorants allow your underarm glands to secrete sweat

Misconceptions are rife when it comes to traditional deodorants and antiperspirants.

Some will swear they are bad for you, citing a scary link to cancer, but Cancer Research explicitly says there is ‘no good evidence’ to support this claim.

So rest assured, that’s not a reason to switch to a natural or aluminium-free option.

But if you want to make the swap for other reasons, read on.

What’s important to know is that mainstream antiperspirants tend to contain aluminium, which reduces sweating by blocking the glands.

Cosmetic chemist, Ginger King, says: ‘Aluminum salts can be deposited into the body, thus considered as a drug active to control sweat.’

This means that due to sweating less, there’s less chance of odor-causing bacteria growing on the skin.

Where the natural debate comes in (in a much less frightful way) is the belief that sweating is a ‘natural and health process that regulates our body temperature and remove toxins from the body,’ as explained by natural company Wild on their website.

If that resonates with you, then you might choose to make the switch.

Bear in mind, it will mean you sweat more than you’re used to (which is why some people don’t like naturals).

The other thing Wild say, is that the yellow stains you find on white T-shirts over time are caused by aluminium coming into contact with your sweat, something natural options are devoid of.

So if you want to give natural deodorant a test before we get back to the hum drum of day-to-day life, these are worth a shot.
