Baby boomers, Gen X, Gen Z, Millennials, the list goes on – but what category do you fall into and what does it all mean?
Whether it’s Millennials being told they’re out of touch with their use of emojis or Gen Z taking credit for TikTok crazes, different generations are always clashing.
A recent study showed Gen Z are struggling with their confidence during lockdown while Millennials are changing how much they spend on partying for good.
But what does it all mean?
What are Millennials?
Millennials can also be described as Generation Y, as they succeed Generation X and precede Generation Z.
Millennials are between the ages of 25 and 40 meaning they were roughly born between 1981 and 1996.
They are often seen as the generation who have been hit hard when it comes to university fees and buying a house, and are also associated with spending their money on avocados and travelling.
What ages are Gen Z?

Gen Z, also known as Zoomers, are the youngest of the currently defined generations and are usually associated with being wizzes of social media and technology.
They are known for their love of TikTok and environmental activism (the most famous Gen Z eco-warrior being Greta Thunberg).
The Gen Z group has also been making headlines of late by taking aim at Millennials for their hair side parts and skinny jeans.
Gen Z people will have been born between 1997 and 2012 making them currently between the ages of 9 and 24.
The generation following Z is called ‘Generation Alpha’, and refers to anyone born after 2012.
What ages are Gen X?
Gen X’s birth dates are estimated to range between 1965 and 1980 making the current population in this category between 41 and 56.
This generation is recognised as having the ability to balance a strong work ethic with a laid back attitude.
They are also associated with making popular the music genres of punk, indie, grunge and techno.
