Hello and welcome to 2020, where we’ve moved on from the simple joys of fidget spinner porn and pegging to a catchy new sexual thrill: stimulating the nussy.
What is the nussy, you may ask, and what does it have to do with the year when many of us haven’t been able to have sex with another person?
We’re here to keep you informed about all the sexual slang happening in the world, so let’s get into it.
The nussy refers to the nose. More specifically, the nose when being stimulated by a Covid-19 test swab.
Rolling Stone has declared that 2020 is the ‘year of the nussy’, although they acknowledge that the term has been in use at least since 2018.
It’s a smushing together of the words nose and pussy, much like the phrase bussy, which refers to the anus.
Basically, it’s rethinking the nose with the lens of a sexual orifice.
Up until now, this has been a rather niche reference, because it’s not that common to put stuff up your nose.
But coronavirus has brought the nussy into the mainstream, with hundreds upon hundreds of people tweeting about getting their nussy stimulated by the intimate act of a nurse pushing a swab up there.
Do people really enjoy having their nussy swabbed? What about in a sexual way? Or is this just internet irony going to its natural point when any new feature of everyday existence appears?
It’s a bit of a mix.
There are indeed people who claim to enjoy getting their nussy pounded by a cotton swab, but often more in terms of the satisfaction of pimple popping or back cracking rather than the sexual kind.
‘It does feel quite clearing,’ Zara, 28, tells us. ‘Like a really good nose blow after you’ve had a cold, or eating something with mustard on.’
There are likely some who do find the experience sexually stimulating, but we are yet to encounter any of these people. Nasophilia (a festish for noses and nose play) is indeed a real thing, but typically those with the sexual preference report liking their nose licked or sucked rather than having their nostrils penetrated in a medical setting.
Another factor that may be playing into the nussy hype is that the Covid-19 test can feel quite intimate – the medical staffer gently prompting you to tip back your head, standing closer to you than social distancing has made the norm, and being there for you while your eyes stream and you worry about your nose hairs.
In 2020, that lingering swab might be the most social connection we get with a stranger. And we like it.
All that being said, the majority of the people we spoke to simply don’t like any sort of Covid-test-related nussy action.
‘Honestly it reminds me of doing coke, but without the benefit of actually getting high,’ says Lulu*. ‘It feels burn-y and makes my eyes water.’
‘When the swab starts spinning, it’s like being murdered underwater by the world’s least powerful drill,’ says Chris, 27. When asked if he liked this sensation, the answer was ‘no’.
