Christmas is a big deal for many, but for those who practise another religion, it’s a different experience.
With most having days off work to enjoy, some from other faiths don’t have trees or presents but still use it to spend time with family – but this year coronavirus makes that more difficult.
One Muslim man who doesn’t normally celebrate the festivities was unable to go home for the holidays due to the pandemic.
So, Mohammad Hussain ended up staying with his flatmates and enjoying preparation for a merry old Christmas.
Mohammad, who works as a special assistant in the office of the Innovation Minister Navdeep Bains in Ontario, Canada, narrated the whole experience.
His hilarious monologue entertained many, as he marvelled at just how much effort goes into creating the most wonderful time of the year.
Mohammad wrote: ‘Observation 1: Christmas is a part time job that you have from mid-November to the end of December. From the outside looking in, Christmas always seemed pretty simple. I always thought you put up a tree and then gave gifts to family. This is a lie.’
He shared the whole thing on Twitter where it’s been liked more than 300,000 times.
Mohammad said he really got into the spirit of Christmas, even adding a new tradition of filling up his own stockings.
He also bought an ornament that spoke to him, opting for a bagel.
‘Observation 6: ORNAMENTS ARE EXPENSIVE,’ he continued.
‘That cost me $15.99. That’s more than three bagels. I am furious. For what it cost, you best believe that I am insisting that it be passed on to my great grandchildren. If they break it I will haunt them.’
We reached out to Mohammad to see how the festivities are going.
He tells Metro.co.uk: ‘The response has mostly been amazing and as soon as I finish my last exam tomorrow I’ll be able to enjoy myself even more.
‘Lots of people are experiencing the holidays differently and this year more than ever, donations are needed!
‘I would just like to encourage everyone who is in a position to, to donate to their local food bank.’
Mohammad shared two of the food banks, one which serves halal food, on his Twitter page where you can take delight in his tweets and find more information about donating.
