Designer and TV upcycler Zoe Pocock @mucknbrass
‘I put my skills to the test over lockdown and came up with this fun theme of my Christmas childhood. It includes old fashioned foil festoons hanging from the ceiling and I’ve made my own giant sweets from car sponges, cellophane, ribbons and buttons. It has definitely made the tree something special to look at and all for under £20 too! It’s a great way to take our minds off this past year!’
Interior designer Daniela Tasca York @danielatascayork
‘After connecting with nature so much this year, I wanted to try something different to decorate my tree. So I used only dried and foraged foliage to create a design inspired by nature and my love of frosty winter walks in the forest with my family.
‘It’s ethereal and delicate but still has a big impact. By bringing the outside in, the tree feels like a soothing end to a crazy year.’
Stylist Ruth Matthews @design_soda_ruthie
‘My six-year-old son Ted and I planned this theme together to mirror the animals and space theme of his bedroom.
‘The felt animals on the tree have been collected over the years and the planets that hang amongst them are from a solar system mobile that’s been temporarily repurposed for the festive period. Its nostalgic feel and comfort of the past reflects the mood of this unique and different Christmas we find ourselves in this year.’
Botanical stylist Tracy Cole @helloflorauk
‘We may not be able to host all our friends and family this Christmas but I still wanted to make an effort, especially with my hallway and stairs, which you can see when I open my front door.
‘To create this faux foliage garland, I tied in strands of ivy then layered in willow tails, castanea branches, eucalyptus, lady’s mantle and a few ferns. Inject a pop of colour with some pink paper origami balls. A festive feast for us – and the postman!’
Vintage stylist Paula Sutton @hillhousevintage
I’ve spent so much time in my garden that I wanted Christmas to reflect nature’s bounty. The charm of a traditional Georgian/early Victorian Christmas has inspired me – the mantle is swathed in sliced oranges, nuts, pomegranates, berries and foliage.’
Influencer Siobhan Murphy @interiorcurve
‘After the year we’ve had, we’re going a bit wild in our art deco home this Christmas – and for me more is always more! I’ve made my own decorations using scallop shells that I painted in ombre pink and blue and covered in jewels to add an extra deco touch. All my Christmas trees are charity shop bargains, which keeps the cost down and is more sustainable.’
Interior stylist Lucy Gough @style_by_lucy
‘I love fairy lights – we have three sets up at home which we use all year round, not just for Christmas.
‘I stuck a light-up Osby star on the wall behind the top of the tree instead of using a tree topper and then blu-tacked a string of fairy lights into the archway around the alcove to frame it. The tree, decs and lights are all from Lights4fun.
Designers Jamie Watkins and Tom Kennedy @divinesavages
‘We love Christmas and need little excuse for putting up more bold decorations! A different theme each year can get expensive and is not sustainable, so we’ve used our stash of traditional, golden Christmas decorations (our festive heirlooms!) and mixed in new additions.
Interiors blogger Sally Hurman @gettingstuffdoneinheels
‘My door (nicknamed The Dior after a typo!) is lit with fairy lights all year round, but Christmas is a time to max out and have a bit of fun. I upcycled an old faux-Christmas tree and secured the branches to the posts using cable ties.
‘I’m never knowingly under-catered where baubles are concerned. And it the lights don’t confuse the planes coming into Gatwick, you definitely need more.’
