Hotel chain scraps check-in and check-out times so guests can come and go as they please

A hotel brand has announced that it’s scrapping check-in and check-out times – so guests can freely come and go as they please.

As of January, Peninsula Hotels around the world will no longer operate with designated times. Instead, guests can show up and depart whenever they like – with no additional charges or fees.

The new system means that if guests book a room, suite, or villa, it’s theirs for one night — even if they check in at 6am on their arrival date and check out at 10pm on their departure date.

Gareth Roberts, an executive with The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels Limited (the company that owns the Peninsula Hotels) said: ‘Especially now that travel has become somewhat more challenging, we understand that extra time is one of the most meaningful gifts we can provide to our guests.

‘By letting guests arrive earlier and stay longer, we hope to provide them with greater peace of mind and an even more personalised experience.’

The move comes as hotels around the world are looking to adapt in response to the pandemic.

But it seems this isn’t the only change from the hotel brand. Peninsula is also making cancellation policies more flexible and consistent – something which is pretty essential in the time of coronavirus.

In the new year, guests will be able to cancel by 3pm one day prior to arrival and can change reservations without penalty for up to 12 months from booking date.

The changes will be rolled out at all 10 of the Peninsula properties, after a successful trial at the Peninsula Beverly Hills.

We hope to see other hotel chains following in their footsteps and becoming more flexible.
