We’re big fans of an unusual property, and this one ticks all the boxes.
That’s because it’s not just a home, but a windmill – one that’s Grade II listed, to boot.
The windmill, which is on sale for offers in the region of £945,000, dates back to the early 1800s.
It sits in an elevated position in the heart of Kent’s countryside, meaning you get incredible panoramic views of the Garden of England’s wonders.
The windmill was converted into a home many years ago, then Jo Rogers and her family moved in back in 2002.
Now, after many happy years in the remarkable property, they’re selling up.
Jo said: ‘In 2002 we all decided to sell our houses and move to Ashford.
‘My parents purchased the estate and over the years, each family group has taken turns in living in the windmill itself.
‘It’s very unique because it still has the sails intact and it is referred to as a smock windmill because it’s in the shape of a dress.
‘The views are magnificent, especially from the top. You can even see to Dungeness (a large headland on the Kent coast).
‘We will be sad to see it go because not everyone can say they own a windmill.
‘We want to see our treasured family home go to someone who will appreciate it and love it like we do.’
Inside the windmill sit three bedrooms, with the option of using one as a home office in the upper floor of the windmill (the prime spot, of course).
You can mix up the accomodation between the windmill and the extension.
In the main windmill, there’s a large reception room and access to a roof terrace, where you can sit and marvel at the surrounding area of North Downs.
In the extension is a kitchen, a large bedroom, a bathroom, and a further reception room or bedroom.
From the extension is access to the garden and patio area.
There’s also a double garage and parking, along with a fancy gated entrance.
If all that’s not enough for you, no fear, as within the estate is an outbuilding that could be converted into further living space, depending on planning permission.
The property is being sold through Andrew & Co, Ashford via OnTheMarket.
Vikki Bennett, spokesperson for OnTheMarket, said: ‘It’s not often that we see a windmill conversion with its sails still attached, so this property is truly exceptional.
‘For anyone wanting a unique family home, this property ticks all the boxes. It has plenty of space spread across four floors as well as in the adjoining extension.’
Martin Randall, assistant branch manager at Andrew & Co Estate Agents in Ashford, said: ‘Windmills are a rare find, and especially ones that are renovated and in such great condition, like this one.
‘The location is really special, too, with such spectacular views.
‘This property has such great character and has been so well looked after by Jo and her family.’
