Let’s face facts; this week is going to be weird. We’re technically coming out of lockdown on Wednesday – but how much are our day-to-day lives going to change, particularly if we’re now stranded in tier two or three?
Fortunately, the end of lockdown doesn’t signal the end of varied and rather vital virtual events, as companies are still offering up fantastic online options for those of us stuck at home this winter.
This week’s most enticing at-home events include the launch of Borough Market’s new digital pop-up – a total dream for foodies everywhere – and a fancy cocktail party live-streamed from Highclere Castle (AKA the real Downton Abbey).
The write stuff
Got a writing project you’ve been putting off for a while and are hoping to finish by Christmas? Join the London Writers’ Salon for a free and focused goal-setting workshop taking place on Zoom this evening.
You’ll come away with a template to build a 30-day writing roadmap with milestones to measure your progress, as well as tips and tricks for staying on track.
Whether you’re writing your first book proposal or just have a ton of emails to respond to, this session will help anyone who simply needs a little push to start putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys!).
When: Monday November 30, 6pm onwards
Mentor matchmaking
No matter your level, getting feedback and words of wisdom from a mentor is always a good shout – often providing invaluable insights, advice and contacts.
But where exactly does one find a mentor?
That’s the subject of this helpful session run by The Dots’ founder Pippa Jamieson, who will be sharing her top tips for approaching a mentor, advice for getting the most out of being mentored and lessons for maintaining and nurturing that special relationship.
When: Tuesday December 1, 12-1pm
Borough Market from your kitchen
This Christmas, you can enjoy the Borough Market experience from the comfort of your own kitchen thanks to their new three-week pop-up series.
Kicking off this Wednesday and running until December 18, Borough Market’s digital Festive Kitchen will feature digital cookalongs and masterclasses with top chefs like Romy Gill and Matt Jones (of Bread Ahead). Big names in the culinary world, including Anna Jones and Gizzi Erskine, are also taking part in live ‘in conversation with’ events.
All content will be streamed live from Borough Market’s Facebook page.
When: From Wednesday December 2 for three weeks, various times
Sing your heart out
Koor, the free app which helps choral singers learn, improve and enjoy singing, is running a series of free festive workshops enabling people to share the joy of singing from the comfort (and Covid-safety) of their own homes.
Throughout November and December, Koor is running 90-minute choral singing workshops led by professionals from leading choirs around the world.
The series of workshops, which focus on three different pieces of music, will culminate in two online performances which will be streamed live from Saint John’s Smith Square and the Old Royal Naval College in London.
When: Workshops are taking place from December 1-15, 7.30-9pm
The Downton Christmas special
Have yourself a VERY fancy Christmas at a virtual cocktail party held at Highclere Castle – AKA the real Downton Abbey.
Hosted by the castle’s real owners, Lord and Lady Carnarvon, this live streamed virtual soiree will bring together gin lovers around the world and provide some much-needed pre-Christmas cheer.
When: Friday December 4, from 9pm onwards
Cocktails at the Castle will be streamed live on Highclere Castle’s Instagram and Facebook pages.
