Poor folks in East London have been without water for a day now after a Thames Water pipe burst.
People in nine postcodes were left with no water or low pressure after a main ruptured at Hackney Marshes yesterday afternoon.
The utility company said the services should commence slowly today as some postcodes start getting their water back.
But in that time people have resorted to their own measures to acquire the much-needed liquid.
While some have taken to supermarkets to stockpile bottles of the stuff, others are hoping to buy online.
And those lucky enough to have a steady supply are taking advantage of the demand, supplying their water online.
One person joked that they were selling tap water for £100 to Newham residents.
Listed on eBay, the seller offered the goods for the hefty price and it soon attracted plenty of attention.
They decided to change the price to £250 and instead of making a personal gain, said they would be offering the money to charity.
Since people started sharing the listing on social media, the seller decided to use the attention and raise money for charity.
They shared an image of 1400ml of tap water and said the £250 price tag will go towards building a water pump for the less fortunate.
The poster wrote on the page: ‘The original post was made for a few laughs and I was shocked to see that it has gone viral. So I have decided to repost this on behalf of The Lonely Orphans so we can help them build water pumps for those who really need it.
‘Remember that water is the lifeline for us all. Our taps have stopped and we have no water but fortunately for us, our water will get turned back on!
‘Thousands of Rohingya orphans and vulnerable children go without clean drinking water every day. Their taps won’t get turned on as they have no access.
‘Refugees have it the worst, as water and sanitation are horrific in cramped camps. Give them access to clean water.
‘For just £250, you can help build a well to provide a lifeline to these vulnerable children. Just £250 can provide clean drinking water for more than 10 families on a daily basis.’
Another poster is also selling tap water for a different charity.
Twitter users poked fun at the original post, saying: ‘This is the hustle in 2020,’ and ‘business moves quick’.
One user wrote: ‘The crazy thing is, there will be someone out there with more money than sense who would buy it.’
One person shared an image of boxes of water and joked: ‘I can ship internationally, gentlemen’.
