Turns out that we’ve been saying Glossier all wrong

Glossier
It’s pronounced Gloss-ee-yay, not Gloss-ee-r (Picture: Glossier)

Despite their odd names, most of us probably think that we know how to pronounce the names of big beauty brands.

Turns out, however, that they’re not as straight forwards as they might seem. In fact, many of us have been saying loads of labels wrong.

Insider recently published a list of over 40 commonly mispronounced beauty brands and it includes a tonne of the most recognisable labels.

Glossier, for example, is pronounced Gloss-ee-yay, not Gloss-ee-r.

So like dossier, but glossy, rather than more glossy than something else.

Dry shampoo gods, Batiste, actually sounds like Bah-tee-ist, rather than Bah-tist and Elf is E-L-F, not Elf.

The ‘Roche’ in La Roche-Posay isn’t supposed to rhyme with ‘bosh’, but rather sounds like ‘rou-shh’ (think….’douche’), while Korres is pronounced Core-rezz instead of Cores (like corr blimey!).

Perhaps the list is a little more important for our American friends as some of the standard ‘wrong’ pronunciations are quite wild. Does anyone, for example, really think that Kiehl’s sounds like Kiles rather than Keels?

Anyway, if you didn’t already know, now you do!
