Today, September 13, is Roald Dahl Day – a celebration joined in by many all over the world to remember one of the world’s most beloved storytellers.
The day is celebrated on this date as it is also the author’s birthday – having been born on September 13, 1916 in Cardiff.

Combining his novels, non-fiction works, poetry books and collected works, Roald Dahl had published 57 books overall.
His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide, and many of his works have been turned into hugely popular films and television shows.
His first came in 1943, a short story titled The Gremlins.
It was this which would provide a loose inspiration for the iconic movie, Gremlins, released in 1984.
His first novel for adults, Sometimes Never: A Fable for Supermen, came next, in 1948.
However, it was with his children’s books that he built his empire. His third novel would set in motion the Roald Dahl who became an institution for children and adults alike.
He wrote James and the Giant Peach in 1961, which was followed by some of his most cherished works, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), Fantastic Mr Fox (1970) and The BFG (1982).
