Man calls over cats in different languages - proving all cats are secretly German
For some reason, all the cats respond to German (Picture: TikTok/g.catt.eng)

Cats are notorious for not following any commands – or even polite requests – we give them.

Half the time you can ‘ps-ps-ps’ and see nary an ear twitch as they decide to completely blank you.

But a TikToker has found a failsafe way to call your cats over – German (or at least some amalgamation of German-sounding words).

User g.cat.eng started an experiment earlier this month where he’d call over cats he saw in the street using different languages.

For example, in Argentinian the call is ‘mish-mish-mish’, or in Japanese it’d be ‘nya-nya-nya’.

American English is ‘kitty-kitty-kitty’, while British English is ‘puss-puss-puss’.

As it turns out, though, it’s a far harsher greeting that cats prefer; the made-up German phrase stardenburdenhardenbart.

For any Germans reading this, we do know that you’d normally refer to your cat as katze or call it over with ‘miez-miez-miez’ and that stardenburdenhardenbart is simply gibberish made up for effect.

However, it weirdly seems to attract all cats.

People commented in their droves underneath the TikToks, with one saying ‘I just yelled this out and one of my cats ran into the room and jumped on the bed with me.’

Another said: ‘I have seven cats and they all looked at the German.’

In an article about why cats respond so well to the pspspsps sound, Dr. Ahna Brutlag of the Pet Poison Helpline told RD: ‘It’s an abrupt sound that’s often not encountered in a typical environment; therefore, it’s “ear-catching”.’

So there’s every possibility that when they hear the harsh and forthright sound of stardenburdenhardenbart, they’re shocked into submission and decide to come to us.

Either that, or all cats are secretly German.
