In a dating landscape where men are knocked back if they’re under 6ft, it’s not surprising that Shane Belgre, who has dwarfism and comes in at 4ft 2in, struggled to land a date in his 20s.
But Shane, 46, has had the last laugh; landing his dream job as a stripper and now being inundated with affection from women.
Shane, from Sydney, Australia, began making his short stature his stripping niche seven years ago when a friend asked him to strip off as a surprise at a hen party.
Now the self-employed personal trainer regularly makes £160 for a half-hour strip-show, and can go to five parties a night to entertain women who ‘go crazy’ for his sculpted abs.
And along with making a load of money stripping, Shane says he’s inundated with requests for dates, as well as sexual interest from women with fetishes.
He tells Metro.co.uk: ‘It was hard for me to date girls in my 20s, because people are more superficial at that age and they’re more bothered about looks and height and that sort of thing.
‘Now I can pick up girls a lot easier because I’m confident and they like my personality.
‘I spend my life getting invited to parties.
‘I can do four or five venues on a Saturday night and these are private parties a lot of the time, sometimes they are birthday parties for girls or hen do’s.
‘Occasionally I’ll get asked to go on a night out with the lads and just drink with them and party.
‘I’ve had countless opportunities with women but I’ve got my professional limits.
‘I might give them a kiss but I keep it to just that.
‘I’ve had girls who have dwarf fetishes and I’ve had brides that even though they getting married weeks later want to have sex with me, but I would never cross a professional boundary.
‘A lot of guys think it’s great, they tell me I have the ‘dream job’ and when they ask me if I have sex with the girls they can’t believe that I don’t.’
Since starting his career in 2013, Shane has expanded his services and DJs at weddings and other events between his strip shows.
To maintain his sculpted body, Shane has a strict gym routine that sees him workout five days a week to keep in great shape for his performances.
He said: ‘I first started stripping when I was asked by a friend who was a former stripper if I would help her friends hen party by turning up as a surprise.
‘I had no idea what I was doing but they loved it so I just went from there.
‘People tell me that I’m not the average dwarf and they tell me that I’m hot.
‘I don’t think they expect me to be in good shape because dwarfs have a propensity to put on weight.
‘When I rip my shirt off and then see my abs that’s when they go crazy.
As well as getting noticed by the women, Shane also gets attention for his resemblance to Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage – but says he is yet to be booked as a Tyrion Lannister double.
Since his diagnosis as a child, Shane admitted he had struggled with his height at times but now embraces it as the thing that makes him unique – and even earns him double what a normal male stripper would make.
‘I think I have dealt with my diagnosis very well,’ he says.
‘Of course you have difficult days but I have everything I need and I can do just about anything that anybody else can.
‘I would have liked to play rugby and I couldn’t really because I would’ve got injured, but I’ve made up for it in other areas.
‘I’m stripping and earning more money than a normal guy stripper could earn, I make double what they would get for a booking.
‘Life is what you make it.’
